Even though you guys are getting some freebies, so glad I avoided this train wreck. Was highly interested in these but way too many revisions and who knows when they will stabilize the design.
As for the serial number range, my guess is the first few were test guns/maybe some select fire and the range spans the Cabela's orders as well as some of the initial gas switchable guns that had a some changed compared to what had been sold recently |

Called first thing this morning after reading here last night. On hold for 25 minutes, settled in 10. Will be receiving a shipping box with prepaid label, replaced carriage, MBT trigger swapped and installed with a free MCX SSA, and a $50 gift card I will use toward 9in barrel package sometime in 2017. They said max time away will be 4 weeks...all and all a little inconvenient but better then an accidental discharge and someone hurt or worse. Probably won't shot much in January anyway.
Should be approved SBR by time all said and done then time to kill some hogs! |

Can anyone confirm that is correct and no one needs to be notified? Mine is an SBR as well, Sig asked that I throw a copy of the Form1 in the box. Thats it. Its going back to the manufacturer for service, thats not a transfer. |

Called Sig this afternoon… Apparently the aftermarket trigger issue was not handled correctly at first. The guy I talked to said they were told around 10 AM this morning that they actually won't have the MCX specific Geissele triggers in for 8 to 10 weeks. If you have an aftermarket trigger, they will ship you the carriage assembly replacement box now and you can move forward with that portion of the replacement but still hang onto your rifle. The rifle likely will not function with the new carriage assembly and aftermarket trigger, so you will have a paperweight for a couple of months, unless you reinstall the factory trigger. Supposedly when they get the new triggers in they will contact owners to ship the complete rifles to them at that time. He said the people who have already shipped rifles to them or are in the process of doing so will be recontacted, and given the option to still ship it now and have them sit on it, or ship it later when they get the new triggers actually in stock. He also said that when you register the rifle it will automatically trigger the carriage assembly replacement box being shipped to you. There is no specific other function you need to do to make that happen.
I have to admit the whole thing sours me a bit on the MCX.
If they offered a buyback program I would definitely exercise it at this point… |

|
So we know the MPX is not a modular platform as originally advertised and now the MCX no longer has the parts interchangeability with AR-15's that was originally advertised.
Geiselle pulled the warranty from all of their triggers used in an MPX and are now making custom triggers for the MCX so they will actually work. Do I have all this right?

Ya know, I'm kinda thinking about just not returning mine right about now. If it's going to kill the AR-15 compatibility, that's a huge negative to me. I've already got a lot invested in this rifle, tax stamp, barrel and handguard cutting, that I'll never get back. It's still my favorite rifle right now, and probably the one that I'd grab if I could only take one.
I think I'll wait to send it back no matter what until we can see some more information on the Gen 2 carrier assembly. I think I'd be willing to do it if I could disable the firing pin safety and use an AR trigger and/or bolt in an emergency. Learning that it would take 8 weeks to get it back is also making me rather have a bird in the hand instead of the extra trigger. I'm also reading elsewhere (where reading comprehension may be an issue) that if you have a Geissele trigger installed, that they will just mod the trigger to work/change the hammer. That would be a HUGE negative to me, and doesn't even seem ethically right to do so. |

But it's odd that they're tiptoeing around the subject. This platform had so much potential but in typical Sig fashion as of late....bad QC, fit/finish plagued and lack of delivering on promises with caliber conversions on this platform and the MPX. I wonder if they give gov't agency the same crappy quality as well.
Sig has a great marketing campaign to sucker you in...and they ALWAYS drop the ball on pretty much everything. The spring retainer plate needs to be updated to a metal one instead of that flimsy plastic crap. I'll stick to my LWRC for my piston needs. |

Alright, something constructive:
What's causing the unintended discharge? Obviously the firing pin is hitting the primer, but why? Is it solely due to bolt velocity? When I look at firing pin protrusion on my MCX bolt, it looks like it's even less than my ARs. If I can ever get out to the range, I'd like to try to drop a round in the chamber with a known easy primer and then drop the bolt on it to see what the primer indentation looks like. But I don't know why it would occur only in .300blk instead of 5.56. Did they use different weight springs on the carrier? I doubt it. The other upgrades look good. The radiused bolt lugs will be stronger than a regular bolt, you're removing areas of increased stress. If the drawings are to scale, it looks like the interface with the charging handle has been strengthened. Also, look at the fully unlocked end of the cam path. Is there another cutout there, or what? I'm not a fan of the captured firing pin retaining pin, but I'm fine with it. I'm guessing that the firing pin block will be of a rocker type, similar to a HK416. So it's probably just the geometry of the hammer that will disable it. It should be easy enough to remove. If you're concerned about slam-fires with your rifle, you could just switch to a titanium firing pin, which MAY alleviate the likelihood. The firing pin return spring/firing pin looks to me like a scaled-down AR10 type. I don't think that there's any AR-15s which use a pin like that, but maybe we can just buy spares from SIG. (hah!) Finally, with the pinned endplate, I don't think it's an issue. I personally think that Nutnwhatever is a fool, and that's the only instance that I've seen of that malfunction happening, not that I've looked very hard. I've put many hundreds (maybe a thousand?) rounds through my MCX already and I have had about two FTF, I think. |

The MCX has been increasingly hard to find. Its seems Sig stopped shipping to distributors a while ago. I can only think the pending recall is why. The few stores with MCX in stock will be in a bind. Serial number 25,000 is a nice round number. Thats not an accident. That shows planning. Sig parts have been extra slow too. Making an extra 25,000 bolt carrier groups for the recall has to have sucked up a lot of machining capacity. |
| You can take apart the bolt carrier. It was poorly worded. It isn't non-removable firing pin retaining pin, it should actually read "captured" meaning that it will slide out of the carriage assembly to allow the firing pin to be removed and cleaned along with the cam and bolt, but the pin itself is captured in the carrier, unlike a standard AR. The barrel bolts on the MCX are another example of being "captured" |
| That was never the concern. The guide rods for the springs are now pinned and cannot be easily removed. On the old carrier the left side guide rod must be removed to allow for the removal of the cam pin. So that has caused some concerns. Supposedly you can still take apart the new carrier according to Sig. We shall see. |

Alright, I spent 30 minutes on hold just so I could find this out.
The serial number range is a range of guns that were both Cabelas guns as well as standard guns. So instead of separating out a ton of different serials, they just listed the big block. Nothing interesting, sorry guys. So they're replacing all of the auto-regulating gas blocks with the current two position block. For those who are selling theirs due to this, did you like it beforehand? |

I liked that MCX very much. Pissed that Sig has had issues. I am considering a real piston carbine with folding stock. That would be an Arsenal AK. Proven design. LOL |

| Waste of time to call. I was on hold for over an hour and no one answered. I'm just going to let it slide for a while until they get it together. Seems like it will take 2 or 3 months just for them to get the parts in. Then you won't be able to use any AR15 parts. I waited 3 years on sending back my Gemtec Outback suppressor back to convert it to take down for cleaning. Now I just got it back and got the new and better G-Core upgrade for free. If I ever have a problem with the bolt group Sig will replace it anyway. BUT!!! Will we ever be able to buy spare parts for the trigger group from Sig?? Or will they discontinue this just like all the rest of their rifles. Already stuck with a Sig 551A1, 556R and 556 SWAT I cant get parts for. |

| OK, I just don't get this. If you have the original MCX trigger you are good to go with just a bolt replacement. So why do you need to send in the whole rifle if you have an aftermarket trigger. Looked like the Sig trigger group was a standard AR trigger anyway. This does not make any sense. |

If you like it and didn't have any problems, I'd at least wait to see what others think about the bolt upgrade program. Maybe drop in a titanium firing pin. I'm going to wait to send mine in, but it appears, at least on the surface, that it will be some decent upgrades. My biggest concern is still the AR-15 parts compatibility. It looks like if you'd disable the firing pin safety that you'd be able to use a regular hammer. I plan to check it out once I get mine replaced. Tap out a pin, pull out a piece of metal and a spring. Put in an AR bolt, firing pin (hopefully), and trigger. I'm hoping to try it out if I elect to send mine back. I figure worst case scenario, I'll have the same parts commonality between an AR and MCX that an AR does with something like a MR556. Besides, look at the price of the HK trigger on Geissele's website. $450. I'm guessing the MCX trigger will be a similar price, whether it's due to economies of scale, or just because people who buy HK can afford a $450 trigger. I guess a big part of my advice is that if your MCX isn't currently wearing a non-Geissele (due to this just replace the hammer nonsense) trigger, I'd put one in and send the whole thing back. It should at least benefit you monetarily. |
|
After 50minutes on hold I finally got through.
He ask what trigger I have in it. They will need the complete rifle because I put a CMC 3.5 in it. "They will need to see if the trigger is compatible with the new carriage assembly". Unfortunately I'm deploying soon. So they made me an account and I'll send it off when I get back. This is a bummer that I'll be thinking about all deployment ![]()

Posted this in the CS thread here as well but thought it might help someone here...
I've had numerous dealings with Sig CS. Most good until today regarding my 2 MCX's and the recall. I was told that Sig would "modify" my existing SSA and ALG triggers to work with the new bolt/carrier. CS Rep stopped short of saying they would replace both triggers with the new MCX/Geisselle triggers. He said that only their "Mil-Spec" MCX trigger was guaranteed to work. That pissed me off... MilSpec means MIL-SPEC!!! You can't advertise that you have a milspec trigger and not have it compatible with any other milspec compatible part!!! WTF!!?? Rep did end up sidestepping and saying that if I sent my guns to them, in 2-5 weeks I would have both guns back with SSA's. Again did not say that I would get all new triggers just the gun smiths would make both my triggers work because "they both are essentially Geisselle triggers". Not really the case... but sort of...Weird. I told him I wasn't happy with 2-5 weeks and that I might buy 2 MCX triggers and just get the upgraded parts. I did express that wasn't satisfactory because I'd spent hundreds on MilSpec "compatible" parts only to be told "sorry those won't work to replace OUR "milspec" trigger", and be out all that money and have to buy yet another MCX specific Geisselle manufacturered trigger that will be "done" in an undetermined timeframe!!! Ugh... THEN....I asked about whether or not my MCX pistol (Cabelas edition) with the 556 and 300blk 9" barrels and auto regulating gas system would work with the new parts and he said no. That REALLY pissed me off. As most of you know this gun was built and advertised to have this auto regulating system and I was lucky enough to get one of 500 they released. To be told now that I need to give that up is unacceptable. I won't do it. I'm so pissed I'm not sending anything in. |
