I finally got to the range for the first time yesterday with my new SIG 556 Commando. My Aimpoint CompML2's arrival was delayed, so I sighted-in the iron sights only. I put 200 rounds through it using factory SIG 30-rd magazines and D&H USGI aluminum mags with green followers.

I'm happy to report that its first range session was a complete success. It never missed a beat through all 200 rounds. Using all the rear sight elevation available, I got it hitting ~1 1/2" low at 25 meters. Windage is dead-on.

Hopefully, I'll get my Aimpoint in by Wednesday so I can get back to the range and get it sighted in.

I like this rifle a lot!

Nice rifle, I've got one almost the same. Here is someting that I picked up on another site. When you field strip your rifle, make sure to return the "charging handle catch"     ( the little lever you push down to remove the charging handle) to its flat position. If its left tilted up and the rifle fired, this part might break.

I've read that, but, fact is, if its spring mechanism is working properly, the catch can't be left in the wrong position. As soon as you release it, it automatically snaps back into its proper "locked" location.

Thanks, men!

The Aimpoint should be delivered today or tomorrow. Now the only trouble is the weather. It's supposed to suck all week with highs in the 30s, wind, snow showers, etc.

Well, the Aimpoint arrived today. Weather-wise, I'm aiming for the weekend to get back to the range since they're calling for snow showers every day from now till then.

Here's a pic with the Aimpoint mounted and sling attached.

You may have already figured this out by now, but your Aimpoint is mounted too far forward for you to dismount the top handguard when servicing the weapon.

I have the same rifle and I can tell you, it flat out shoots.  Even better if you adjust the trigger properly- they're a little spongy out of the box.

Thanks. Yeah, I did figure that out, fortunately before I zeroed the Aimpoint.

Now I have it mounted two slots forward of the center mounting point. That's about as far forward as you can go without running into trouble.

Glad you caught it!  I have the exact same setup on mine.  I do like to run Aimpoints as far forward as possible, but that's going to require some very good RTZ release levers.  I can live with in the position you (and I) have it in.

Hopefully this exchange will help new owners avoid a problem when mounting their optic with the Swiss handguards.

Enjoy your Commando!
