Im looking at purchasing a SKS and was looking for some feedback from you guys on them.
What are things to look out for? Are the Romanian ones any good?
Are they accurate/ fun to shoot?

Thanks

I have a Yugo one and it is pretty accurate, I was impressed.  It is a blast to shoot!!!

I can't speak to the Romanian one though.  I'm sure it would be fun if nothing else!

The Romy ones are rare and do demand a decent penny. Likewise with the Russians, they are not as rare but are of top quality and demand more than most other SKS's.

Outside of that they are a blast to shoot and pretty cheap to feed. They are really reliable for pretty much every model produced. The main thing to look out for IMO is bore condition and if it's #'s matching.

There will be some folks tell you to stay away from the Yugo 59/66, don't believe a word they say. The 59/66's can have corroded gas valves and they are a few dollars to replace. This is the most common problem with them. I own Russians, Yugos, Chinese etc. and they are all reliable and accurate. My fav of the bunch though would be the Russians.

I have a couple of Romanian ones.  They are very nice with impeccable machining.  Almost all of the ones on the market are ones which were were factory reinstalled and stored (once the Romanians got the AK) so most look pristine.  Ones showing honest wear are usually not that common.

I've read that the romanians were some of the nicest SKS rifles to leave the eastern bloc, outside of a russian model, of course. I did read that on the internet, but having handled them, I'm inclined to agree.

Personally, I own a norinco. And boy is it fun! If anyone needs a blade bayo and assembly for it, and has a spike with an assembly for it, PM me :)

Buy any SKS you find.  For price comparison, they go from Russian to Chinese (top to bottom).  The Romanians are just fine but their price is related to rarity, not quality.  Same for the Albanians.  The Russians are the "finest" but they all work.

The romanians are still pretty rare, and most of the ones i've seen for sale have been in the "fair" or cracked stock category. For the price you can do better.

Good or unissued yugos are really nice, especially if you can find one for 2005 prices.

The chinese are fine rifles, but they arent c&r.

The russians are the nicest, but for the kind of money people want you could just buy a saiga instead.

the Yugo's @ SOG are unissued, but the price is a bit high. they are in great condition, come with a leather ammo pouch, sling, oiler in a leather pouch, etc. they are also cosmo free.
