Question for you guys with SKSes-- When I take apart my SKS to clean and oil it, I notice the gas piston fits pretty tight into the gas tube. So I have been putting a little wheel bearing grease in there to cut down on the friction. It occured to me that this might not be very smart. What do you guys think? |
LOL. I'm glad I asked! In that case then, are there any general rules of thumb as to what ought to be oiled, what ought to be greased and what ought to be left alone? I'm talking for firearms in general, not just the SKS now. |
Virtually all bolts need to be lubed. Most op rods do as well, such as those on Garands. I also lube my sears & trigger groups. General rule of thumb is NO lube in any sort of gas system, regardless of gun. |
