| It seems like the supply of SKS rifles, including the Yugos, is getting awefully slim at local shops. Generally speaking, are these drying up? I've heard rumors, but I was wondering if you folks know anything more definitive? |

I definitely think we're getting closer to the end of the Yugos. I've got three of them squirred away. I think I paid $89 for each of the last two from SOG. There are still quite a few around locally. My local shop has quite a few excellent if not unissued and they are around the local shows. The prices are definitely climbing though. I would grab one soon if you're looking. later, AJ |
I see that SOG is still advertising SKSs on their website and the April flyer... did they directly tell you that they are out of stock? I am not doubting you, I am just wondering if they need to update their listings. |
| My brother had an unissued Yugo he never fired. We both bought one for $130 about 5 years ago. He needed some cash so he sold it for $75 with some accessories on Sun. I bought his case of wolf 7.62x39 for $40. I can't even feel good about the deal since it was from my brother, I feel I should give him some more money. I would have bought his but I haven't even fired mine. |

Well, today Cabelas got 4 Yugo SKS rifles in, supposedly in excellent "like new" condition. As soon as I got the news on the phone I rushed over. Took 1/2 hour and one of the four was already sold. The staff there didn't bring them all out to hand pick which one I wanted. They bring one out to you and you have to take it or leave it. Well, the man at the gun counter brings one out and while he's lifting it out of the box I notice that the receiver is scuffed up a lot. Fortunately, just as it's all the way out of the box, the trigger assembly falls off onto the floor. So the employee sets it down and goes back for another. He returns with one that is in noticeably better condition. The receiver finish has just a little minor wear and the bottom of the magazine has a few tiny scratches. Other than that, the blueing looks good all over. I pull the bolt back and look down the barrel. The rifling looks sharp as can possibly be. The wood (pretty dark, actually) has some small dents, but nothing that I mind. Also, the grenade launcher has had ports drilled in it. Asking price: $150 for a specimen that really does appear to be close to excellent condition. So, not having enough to buy it outright, I put down a few $20 bills and put it on layaway until I can return and pay off the rest. I hope to post pictures once she's finally home. |

The one with the hole in the flash hider is fairly rare. Supposed to be an early feature but my log book puts mine in 1986. I think the log book lies. Dennis Jenkins

Some local shops and the gun shows still have plenty of SKSs. I was about to buy an unissued, all matching numbers SKS a couple of weeks ago for $200+shipping, then my friend said that he needed to sell his one week old Saiga sporter 7.62x39 rifle... I gave him $200 for it and didn't have to deal with shipping |
