I've been thinking about an SL8. I gave a little thought about doing the G36 conversion, but decided it isn't really worth it. I'd kinda like to leave it the way it is. I think it would make a good, accurate rifle just the way it is.
I hear about SL8's 4,6 and 8. What are the differences between them? Thanks... |

For all intents and purposes, in the US, we can only get the SL8-1 or SL8-6, which are essentially the same rifle, except for the color (1 being gray, 6 being black). It is somewhat possible to get the SL8-4 (Read: Incredibly difficult, expensive, and time-consuming). If the G36 conversion process isn't worth it to you, the process to import one SL8-4 will be positively impossible - not something to even consider.
I don't know if HK is still importing the SL8 at all, so your choices will likely be limited to what happens to be available at the exact moment you choose to buy. The SL8-6 will be more expensive, probably by several hundred dollars. Read up on either the SL8-1 or 6, they are essentially the same thing. ~Icarus |

I'm a SL8-6 owner (I think, just got it last week) And all I can tell you is that mine accepts (slightly modified) 30round G36 Mags.
According to HKPro.com the SL8-1 Doesnt. For what the SL8 is concerned, I'd say go for it! Took it to the range for the first time yesterday and it worked like a dream! After tuning in my EOTECH 5.11 I ran 100 rounds of American Eagle 55 grn FMJ through it, 60 of which rapid-fire. made a 60 shot 3.5 inch group at 100 meters (110yds) http://i569.photobucket.com/albums/ss133/distantdrake/SDC10569.jpg |

It looks like you have the Sl8-4 or 5 I cant remember. The Sl8-1 & 6 have a depresion molded where the mag goes so the gun only takes single stack mags. the right side of the bolt is ground on an angle so it wont strip a round from the right side. you need to cut the reciever alot to accept the G36 mag ang use a G36 bolt. Your gun was not imported to the US because of the 94 AWB. |
