| Anyone have any info on the SOG Seal Pup? Is it worth the money? How are SOG knives in comparison to other top brands as far as quality? |
| i do not have the seal pup, but i do have the seal pup elite. id pay the extra for the elite over the normal one. the blade is a little thicker on the elite, and i think it is a tiny bit longer. the edge is like a razor. i love sog knives. the blade is AUS 8. im very happy with it for only paying 60 some bucks. |
I agree.......I have the Seal Pup Elite, satin plain edge. It's definitely a great knife for the price. I also have a Seal 2000, a Tigershark, a Powerlock EOD, and three Sog folders. I like SOG. As far as comparing SOG to other "top" brands.......I think Sog makes a great product, but Benchmade for example is definitely a step above. You can't really compare them directly because most of my Benchmade knives cost double what the SOGs cost. For the extra cost of a BM you will get IMHO, better designs, better workmanship, and better materials. SOG may not compare directly to the top tier knives, but they make great products at reasonable prices. |
I have both Benchmade and SOG. Comparing equal price points, IMHO the SOG comes out on top. Benchmade does have some sweet designs though. I really want to get ahold of a new Gravitator, but the SOG Spec-Elite II is calling me. I need another large folder for duty. |
I use a seal pup as a dive knife for search and rescue. It's sturdy, does not rust, and holds an edge. Overall, it's an excellent knife. However... The Sheath sucks. This is not SOG's fault, in my opinion virtually all factory sheath's suck, they are a comprimise design intended to satisfy everybody and make nobody really happy. The quick disconnect and the line cutter are nice, but the tab on the quick release rotted off after about 50 dives in chlorine and lake water, and the rivets are all rotting out. Here's the real question... If I lost this knife, would I buy another? Yes, without hesitation. |
| I have several SOG knives: Gov-Tac, Seal Pup Elite, the Powerlock multi-tool and several folders, they have excelled through all of my carry and service needs. Does anyone have recommendations for sheaths, the nylon one works to carry both my elite and powerlock on my molle gear, but what are my options to replace the kydex. As far as the knives go I would recommend them to anyone and since i live just a short distance from the headquarters, I have picked several up for my buddies after they saw and handled mine. |
