I'm looking for a can for an SPR build I am doing. My option (as far as I know) is the Allan Engineering AE5. I cannot find them in stock and I can't seem to figure out if it is an exact copy of the Ops Inc 12th, or if it has been upgraded from the original design. Also, the Allan Engineering website rarely seems to work. That being said, I am now looking at the Griffin Armament SPR can.
Does anyone have any experience with either of these cans? I saw the thread where the a guy got a Griffin and compared it to a Saker. That is all I've seen on it and there is not a dealer in my state. I willbe putting the can on the SPR and on a bolt gun. |
| I got an AEM5 from ADCO. Thing is sweet as pie, I had serious doubt's about quieting 556 ammo, even out an 18in barrel, but the results were quite pleasant and the reflex design made the gas blowback a complete non-issue. It's quirky in the current trend of one-size-fits-all, adapter X for mount XYZ world, but damn it's quite possibly my favorite... Rifle & all. |

Allen Engineering just released a batch of AEM5's to High Caliber Sales and ADCO, but they may have all sold out already. Check with Kevin @ high caliber sales by calling him.
The griffin armament SPR is the only other viable alternative to the 12th model/AEM5 but it's not the same. |

It's mount goes back over the barrel as opposed to the collar and muzzle device that the Ops Inc/AE can uses. |
| If you've got the SPR barrel with the correct profile, go for the AE5. I agree, it's the quietest 5.56 can I've ever shot and it's just "right" on that SPR. It also has zero negative impact on precision. If it's not available, the Griffin SPR can is the way to go. I would actually give it a nod on construction if you're going full auto with it, even though the AE5/12th model can handle it too. Both companies have good people at the helm, too. |

After thinking about it some, I think I am going to go with the Griffin Armament can. Green0 has been a solid resource for those of us that have been on this board for almost a decade and has really brought his products and company a long way. I am going to repay him for his efforts with my patronage even though I am not sure what exactly I'll be getting. I know it will be a well made, quality product. |
