Hoping that either somebody on here, or Chris from ATI can help me...I have some STG 44 magazines that I'd like to clean and lubricate internally. I see that they have some tiny torx type fasteners...can these mags be easily taken apart and EASILY re-assembled to facillitate a good cleaning/lubing? The rifle itself runs flawlessly, however, every once in awhile the follower seems to bind or drag within the mag and fails to raise the next round into position to be fed. A good hard rap on the bottom seems to do the trick, but I'd prefer to not have to rely on that. If anyone can tell me the simple fix for this issue, and if they are easy to take apart and get back together again, I sure would appreciate it!! Thanks...

I had the same problem you are describing and have investigated and solved the issue.

There are two "nubs" on either side of the interior of the magazine up by the feed lips. As near as I can tell, these nubs are designed to center the round on it way to it's feed position at the top of the mag. Now the problem begins when one uses .22LR rounds shorter than .990" long OAL. The rim on the shorter rounds will sometimes catch on the nubs and hang. A sharp tap on the back mag with send the rounds aft and clear the nub allowing the round to raise into proper pickup position.

If one uses rounds .990" long or longer the round will center in the mag and the nose of the bullet will keep the rim aft of the nubs and feed correctly. I found the problem a couple weeks ago. I had multiple stoppages with the variety of ammo I was using. Tearing down and lubing the mags was of no help. Its easy to do BTW with the right size torx bit.. Reassembly of the bottom spring locator can be a bit of a pain. It helps to have a ball end Allen wrench to fit the screw at an angle.

After finding the problem I use only ammo longer than .990" and I have had ZERO feeding issues since! I was planing on taking a few pics of the problem to help illustrate it, but its pretty self explanatory with a good look at the mag loaded. It's a bit of a pain to make sure I have the right ammo. Most hollow points are too short. I am using regular CCI LRN with no problems.

I'll check that out...thanks for the headsup! I have the correct torx fastener for the mag screws... I just didn't want to disassemble them until I knew if they were intended to be able to be taken apart. I'll check into the "nubs" vs. OAL issue. Thanks again!
