I was checking one out at my dealer today.  It had the Picatinny rail on top.  I put on a Reflex, an EOtech, and some other dot type sight.

First, any problems with racking knuckles on the optic when working the charging handle?

Second, with this design does a 30 round mag present any problems when shooting in the prone position?

Last, are there any specific design features to protect the shooter's face / eyes in the event of a Kaboom?

1) Yeah, optic mount/type/location needs to be considered to avoid snagging fingers when working the charging handle. Ex: When experimenting w/the Aimpoint CompM4 I discovered that I could reverse the base so the QD knob was on the right instead of the left so the charging handle was clear:

2) No difficulty using 30's from prone and even the 42's are very usable.
3) I don't know of any specifics but the entire bolt/lockup area looks very solid, I'm not terribly concerned, maybe MSAR can chime in w/any specifics?
