| Are there any STG-556 Variant 1 ownwers out there who have had no function issues and have not sent it in to MSAR to have anything updated? |
|
Yes, me. I have 4 that have not gone in. One is in the 800's sn and three in the 1550's. WHY?
EDIT: After I posted I went back to the original post and read it again. Your question was about those who had var1 with no problems. I assume what you call var1 is everything prior to E4. Mine have problems and haven't been sent in and they are Gen I and Gen II of Var1. I still am asking, WHY regarding your original question. Mine haven't been sent in yet for all the updates. I guess I've been waiting to make sure there aren't more updates available. |

I have a tan 1st Generation with forward assist and bolt hold open, It has been flawless up to this point. The guys at MSAR told me to send it in and they would upgrade the springs, I decided not to since it aint broke. I have several thousand rounds through my STG now with only two malfunctions which I traced to my handloads and their COL both on the same range trip. I have utilized my STG in the dirt, sand and rain with only one complaint. I wish there was some type of cover for the optic.
I know there is a bikini type neoprene cover but I just don't care for it, I will probably pick one up when I can for storage purposes. I have shot my STG exclusively until recently when I picked up a FN PS90 for my wife, she is a lefty and the OAL is perfect for indoor use. I must admit I have grown to like the FN also. My STG has been flawless with all FACTORY ammunition with zero parts breakage, I however purchased some spare parts from MSAR for future rainy day usage and I have absolutely nothing but respect for MSAR customer service. I use my STG on a daily basis as a patrol rifle and I love it. I have 20 magazines for my STG and have had zero issues at this time but I have only used six of the magazines and the rest are still in the wrappers. My STG fills a specific niche for me and it fills it superbly well, patrol/CQB carbine. I will stack my STG up against any rifle configured similarly. I know that my STG is probably not as accurate as someone's 24 inch Varmint AR15 with 3x9 power scope with a RRA arms 2 stage National Match trigger but I feel well armed with my STG and it runs each and every time. 100 yard accuracy for me is excellent as I can fill the cranial vault of a standard Q target with 42 rounds of 5.56 ammunition (my reloads not withstanding) effortlessly and easily. At CQB distances it is a no brainer and the 1.5 power optic works well for me. I will continue to use my STG and I expect to be happy for a long time, If I break it I believe that the guy's at MSAR will fix it for me if I cant do it myself with my stash of extra parts. |

Yikes. Guess not. ![]() Haha, takes more than an hour to get a response. This place is quick, but not that quick to such a specific question. I purchased a Gen III STG-556 rifle. I have no issues with it since I purchased it and I shoot around 100 rounds per month through it and have had two weekends so far where I've put 1,000 rounds through it since purchase. No problems. I've had my extractor upgraded and now have a generation IV stock and match hammer pack. At some point I might want to go to the new bolt carrier. I never really leave anything alone rifle wise and I'm always looking to do something different. The old carriers are built like tanks, but I like the new carriers just a bit more. |

I'm new to the stg556. There is a local store with one for 17xx dollars. Just rails, no scope. How can one tell which generation the rifle is?
Any advice for a noob to this rifle would be greatly appreciated. I always wanted an AUG but could never afford one. Does MSAR put out a scope comparable to the original AUG (hendsolt, I belive) optic? Is it a modular thing where you can take the rails off and install a scope ass'y? I would hate to spend nearly 2k on a rifle and have issues. How is their customer service? What is the incidences of malfuntions with these? What kind of accuracy (given good ammo of course) can be expected? |
