I have a Shadow 9 that I've put quite a few rounds through. It is one of the older suppressors that you can't take apart to clean. I'm wondering if there is a way for me to disassemble the unit to clean it (even though the manufacturer says there isn't), or if I can take the unit to a machinist to have him alter it so it can be easily disassembled for cleaning in the future. I've read online that you can't change the size or caliber of the suppressor, and that the tube must remain the same. Also, you can't change or alter the serial number. My question is, can a machinist take apart the suppressor, then do some machining to make the suppressor easily disassembled in the future, as long as he uses the same tube, and doesn't change the outer dimensions? Also, is there anyway for me to disassemble the unit at home? |

You can legally modify the suppressor to make it servicable. You can't change the outer dimensions or the bore. A machinist can do the work as long as you're present, or you can send it to an 07/02 SOT for the modification.
There are several companies who "jailbreak" suppressors on a regular basis. Stalking Rhino is one of the most popular. I would recommend sending it to them, since they should have plenty of experience with opening up sealed suppressors and threading them for removable end caps. |
