| I was shooting my SWR Wolverine on a LMT 10.5 upper and kept having some cycling issues. I could not dump a complete mag without one cycling issue. The rifle was completely clean and I was using M855 greentips. I never had an issue with the rifle or ammo before I put the can on. Any recommendations on what I should do? |
Out of spec mag? Out of spec mag catch? Out of spec bolt stop? Dirty bolt stop? Full mag and a bolt lock back should not happen. Not sure a buffer will help, but Joe has a pretty good clue about the AR system. |

What does it lock back on? What do you need to do to get it to close again. The bolt should only lock back when the bolt stop is activated by hand or by empty magazine. Otherwise it should alway return to chamber. Is it catching on a round in the magazine or sticking on something else. I do hope you are not running a carbine buffer in a full sized A1 or A2 stock, if so you are going to damage your lower receiver. |
| It locks back and I have to keep hitting the release to chamber another round. Not all the time, but every few rounds. I have a standard carbine buffer from LMT. The rifle is a LMT M4 carbine. SWR said that I need to be running a H1 or H2 buffer so I ordered a H2 from Bravo Company. I'll see this weekend if this does the trick. Thanks for all the help. |
I would remove the bolt release and clean it completely. Re-oil and re-install. I you may need a heavier buffer, but you might not need a heavier buffer to cure a bolt lock-back issue. |
This will fix it for you, if you need an H2 buffer, LMK Edited to add: Did you cut down your barrel? If so, check your gas tube port size on your barrel, it will change in size from a carbine to an SBR length, don't know if that could be an issue or not. A suppressor will speed your rate up alot, you can use a H1, H2, or you can go to a system like the one AAC offers, new spring and hydraulic buffer system, I like the AAC system, I have had no problems once I changed over to the AAC type. |
When you figure it out how addition of a silencer can activate the bolt hold open, which is normally activated by the empty magazine or operator, please let us know so we can put this info in our troubleshooting liabrary. I would try shooting again while holding down on the paddle for the bolt hold open, see if it works, then feel the cycle on it, to try and dertermin if it's being forced out to activate, or if it's just bouncing out activating due to a changed recoil pulse of the silenced rifle. |
How about it is recoiling so hard the bolt catch is flipping up? I could be smoking crack though |
