I just moved a 1000# safe for a family member by myself.  Just thought I'd share.

Did you roll it on Pipes?

I moved my 800 lb safe from my living room into my bedroom with dowels. At first I was rolling it on them, but it turned out to be easy to use them as rails, and slide the safe on them.

Still sucked. Next time I want to try the golf ball idea.

Moved it off a pallet and about 50 feet with 1" clearance through one doorway(1/2 on each side).  I then placed it in a custom built closet/enclosure with no room to spare.  I did it with a machinery dolly, rollers, lots ot blocks for cribbing, a pry bar, and muscle.  A tip for the placement of safes on concrete in an enclosure, duct tape tyvec to the floor, it works as a great slider, and bolt right through it for a vaporbarrier underneath.

So...you moved a 1000-pound safe by yourself...

Do you need one of these now?

No, and I only weigh 160#, granted I'm strong for my size, and work out alot, but it's mostly about leverage and proper planning.

Nice work. Just don't get cocky and try to move it up a flight of stairs by yourself!

This is some post IKE recovery,  Gave this to my brother in law since he lent us his race car trailer to store what we could recover in until we get put back together.  Besides I wouldn't have the facilities to restore it and he could clean it up and use it.  I have since gotten a new one and had it delivered to our temporary accommodations in an apartment down the street from our house that is not ready yet.   We are currently on the SECOND FLOOR!  The wife has promised me that I can call some professionals to deal with this thing.  I have moved the old one several times and just "aint gonna do it no mo!"

A hint from a friend. . .

I'd get some 10 foot four by 2's min of 6 need and go buy the largest crow bar you can get your hands on 56 inch one!  You can use the bar and single point of pressure movement to get the safe up the first 3 inches. Then 2-3 guys can push it up the flight of stairs. Get a gym membership and make some friends.
