Here's a little home shop project I did, I've been putting an AR together for my brother, he's not a big gun guy, but wants one stashed away for a rainy day.
He shoots lefty due to being partially blind in his right eye, so I swapped the safety around for him.
I'm not a big fan of ambidextrous safeties, and the budget doesn't allow for a full on left handed gun, but a cheap mod to make handling more intuitive is doable.
First stab with a tiny dremel "carbide" ball didn't go so well.
So I annealed it
After that it was easy to drill the two divots, then connect them with the dremel.

Took a few test fittings and grinding to get it right, but now it functions fine. I'll re-harden it for the final finish.
Thought I was perfectly square but it looks like I was a few degrees off.
So now the safety will work on either side, whichever he finds more comfortable.

I battle with the wife for every second in the shop, which she interprets as neglect of her; rare is the day I have time to devote to cleaning.
I'm gonna need a bigger bit for barrel fluting!

You could have just bought a Colt safety for like $20 that has the double detents already on it
