Okay, So I've got kind of a crazy question... but how easy is it to swap out barreled receiver groups on the Sage stock? I've handled them before, and absolutely love the old school M14 in the newfangled Sage stock, plus honestly, most standard M14's are too damn long for me to fire from anything other than the prone or bench. Finally, I come from the AR world, so I'm used to modularity, and swapping things out and back and forth, so please forgive me. However, that said, I was thinking about getting myself an M1A in a Sage stock sometime in the near future, but I've been having trouble deciding between the standard long barrel, and the 18" barrel. When, in typical ARFCOM fashion, I found myself wondering: "Can I get both?!" I certainly can't afford two Sage stocks, not on my current budget, but I could afford one, perhaps, and another barreled receiver, if they could be easily interchanged, perhaps. I'm familiar with standard M14's, and know that it's quite easy to take one out of the stock, and drop it into another, but I wonder how a Sage stock would change things? By all means, tell me if this is a stupid question... ![]() Thanks, ~Augee |

If I understand your question... you want to different complete barreled action that you can swap in and out of a single SAGE EBR. YES! All you need to do is have a SAGE op rod guide block installed on both actions. You will also need to have the appropriate gas cylinder shim, front sight and muzzle device installed. I can easily swap my MK14 actions in and out of two different SAGE stocks. HTH ~ |

Augee, while what you're thinking is certainly possible, I think you'll find the SAGE with the 18" to be more your liking and the standard barrel better in a GI stock. It might just be personal preference, but the long barrel in the SAGE is just HUGE and heavy as well, making for one awkward and cumbersome weapon unless you're just bipod or bench firing the robust beast. Then again, the ability to easily scope the SAGE makes you want to drop the standard barrel on it and use the length of it to reach out and touch someone. Hmmm. Tough call! I chose the 18" in the SAGE myself, and the GI barrel with a GI stock. |

Thanks! I'm glad to hear that they can be interchanged. As you suspected, one of the biggest attractions of the Sage stock is the full railed platform, allowing the some modularity between configurations, based on a "mission profile" (though, I'm sorry to say, if the mission for all of my personal weapons is usually: kill paper. And if SHTF, I would grab an AR, simply because that's what I use most), rather than being limited to one weapon for one use. That said, the GI stock, while a fine length for me to use recreationally, I've found it long and cumbersome to be used while wearing any kind of equipment, be it web gear or IBA. Again, for punching paper, it's not much of a concern, but I suppose the idea bothers me, of not being able to use my weapons should the situation warrant. Here's another addition to my question, though, how easy is a stock M14(M1A type) action to adapt for use to a Sage stock? In other words, how easily could I switch them back and forth, so that I never had an loose receiver without a stock, but I could decide on a whim which to put in which stock? The first Sage EBR I handled was a full length USGI barrel, so I'm familiar with the balance, and it's not necessarily altogether the most comfortable, but IMHO, an M14 type rifle is a special purpose weapon, not a general use weapon (blasphemy to some, I'm sure, but I was brought up on the AR ). Also, using an M4 with all the bells and whistles, needless to say, I'm used to a front heavy weapon, though I am aware that the differences are on an order of magnitude, and an M4 is nothing like an M14 in a Sage. I am however, familiar with the front heavy sense of balance in a weapon, and I've integrated it in my shooting style to the point where a "better" balanced weapon, like the British SA-80 doesn't make sense to me.Thanks again, ~Augee |

nice pic H20.. le'Sage loves alan wrenches Augee, I'd almost have to say it depends on the stock. I know this sounds silly, but some actions slip into the Sage painlessly, and others need a rubber mallet and a block to go in, and to come out. The first time I |
I emailed Steve Troy about this a few days ago. I need the complete upper half of a MCS with all of the bolts, screws and hardware. I can bolt an entirely different barreled action into this spare upper add optics and BUIS and then swap uppers as needed. I know you can buy a spare op rod guide block from SAGE, but I don't know if TROY sells replacement uppers... |
