I got a savage 64 semi auto in trade. I stripped it down and cleaned it very well before the first range trip. I noticed that about 30% of the time I was having light primer strikes. Anyone experience this issue before?

I was using Remington thunderbolt which I've never had issues with in the past.  Used two different lots of thunderbolt and it didn't matter. I will strip down and inspect the fireing pin and test again using cci ammo next weekend.

Y'all think screwed somethig up during disassembly? Got shafted with a lemon gun?

Thanks in advace for your help!

I had nothing but issues with my Savage 64f: FTF, FTE, light primer strikes, etc. I ended up selling it for $50 to a buddy so he could teach his daughter to shoot with it.

I may try and hammer flatten the tip of the firing pin to lengthen it

I want to give the rifle to family for training the youngsters but want it to be a reliable rifle that they don't have any problems with

I would try different ammo before I went pounding on anything. Thunderbolt isn't the most reliable stuff out there.

Other than that I would make sure nothing got in between the striker and bolt that is preventing full contact with the back of the firing pin. Inspect the firing pin for damage where the striker makes contact and make sure the firing pin floats freely in the channel.

Don't know if anyone cares but my problem was solved after tapping the fireing pin flatter with a hammer.  Tolerance specs must be a bit too loose for those stamped firing pins.

Anyway, ran flawlessly after lengthening the pin.
