Just purchased a brand new Savage Model 10 with a fluted 24" BB, Mil Spec, 5R , 11.25 twist.308
After barrel brk in, Im gonna be (once again) going down the load development road to see what this thing likes to eat. May be asking alot, but Im looking for fellow Savage shooters who not only shoot this rifle but have found its sweet spot. It will save me time and money. Im a big fan of Varget and Sierra,s 168/175. They work wonders on my LR308 match ammo. I know bolt guns are a breed all there own Im open for other component suggestion,s as well. If you do happen to use Varget...then whats your load?...bullet and charge weight? Thanks |

My '05 10FP LE2b shoots everything well, from the 150s up to the 190s. It took about 700 rounds to start shooting nicely, but over the last 2600 rounds, it's been an accurate rifle.
You can go nuts figuring what works, so keep it simple and load up 42-45grs of Varget and the 168/175s and see what you see. Find out how long your mag box is first, then find the lands and split the difference. If those components don't work, move on to any of a dozen other powders and bullets. IMR-4895, RL-15, VV-150, AA-2520, IMR-4064, VV-140, TAC, 168gr AMAX, Hornady 178 HPBT, 167 Scenars, yadda, yadda, yadda. You have to do the work and verify things, not us. Chris |

I have a 10 FCP-K in .308 with a 24" fluted barrel... I run 175 SMK's in Win brass, with Win LR primers over 42.6 gr of Varget. In my rifle this runs 2624 fps. After testing and comparing my loads / velocity to others, it seems I probably have a "tight" chamber. Here's a group from 220 yards while I was developing that load: http://www.rnlvideo.com/Savage/Target2a.jpg those are nice groups at 200 Rick. Are you still developing? I run 175,s in my LR308 and was hoping it,d give me the same results in my Savage........apparantly so....thanks Rick...great shooting and great info |

44 gr Varget, fed match primer, prepped Win cases and a 155 Amax. Shoots like a lazerbeam out of my pre accutrigger 10FP. Same charge with the 168 Amax is also more accurate than I am normally capable of shooting. 155 amax are from what Ive read, same consistant shooters.... |

For me, the trigger works fine. That said, I haven't been spoiled by anything "better" so maybe I don't know what I don't know.
Now, I can't always get it to do that, but as long as I'm settled in and focused, .5 MOA seems pretty easy. I need to improve my wind calls to get better out past 300, but that's me - not the gun or the load. This load seems to be right in the middle of a node, so I'm REALLY happy with it. And, although I trickle all of my charges to be as exact as possible, I know that since I'm in the middle of that node it probably isn't going to matter if my weight is .1 off. |

No Savage here, but my Winchester M70 always liked 42.0 gr. IMR-4064 and a 168/175 grain bullet. It is one of the old classic highpower loads from the days when 308 match rifles owned highpower. interesting. Ive always wanted to give 4064 a try. friend of mine gave me 1lb of it, we didnt know how old it was so I decided to use it for some tracers shot well and lit the tracers...but....It meters worse off than varget...but tat doesnt bother me much anyway |

I have a 10FP pre accutrigger. I put a timney in that averages 1.6 lbs on my digital trigger pull gauge.
It really likes winchester brass, cci 200 primers, 168 SMK's and 41.5 grains of IMR 4895. I do plan on trying the varget, as I have read and talked with other reloaders that have had good things to say about it. I just ordered some Hornady A-Maxs for it today and also some Nosler ballistic tips. I think the SMK's are going to be hard to beat though. |

I do want to try the a-max,s but I just wish they,d offer them in 500rd boxes |
