Let's say I want to do 2 things with my CMP Springfield M1:

1. Shoot M2 Ball Greek surplus and have the action function like a normal M1

2. Shoot reloads with no gas system action

I have a Schuster adjustable plug installed. Is it sufficient to do the following for each of the above cases (and is it safe for the rifle)?

1. Complete close the set screw in the plug so that no gas can escape.

2. Completely remove the set screw so there is a hole where the gas can escape.

I find that the set screw design doesn't really allow for easy adjustments that aren't completely closed or completely open. I would be happy to just use the plug as an all-in or all-out design and not worry about tuning the gas system until I run out of M2 ball and have to design a custom load.

I think you have that the wrong way... you want fully open so all gas can escape.  (No cycling of the op rod then.)

That is what I plan to do when shooting reloads.

I suppose my primary question is, since the M1 is tuned for M2 ball, does completely closing the screw on a Schuster valve make it work like the factory gas plug screw?
