| I have a set of Badgers on my current rifle that keep the 16x Super Sniper in place rather well. I am thinking hard though of ordering another rifle....anything else to consider? The Badgers were pricey but I have never had any issues with them either. |
I use a 30mm Lapping bar from Wheeler Engineering and the lapping compound that comes with the kit. Use the lapping bar to lineup the rings as well as possible on the gun's rail and torque them down, around 60 inch pounds on the cross bolts I think but consult the included Burris instructions. Of course I Blue loctite the thread prior to torquing. After you've got the lower halves mounted, lap them until you see that the bar is fully in contact. Usually doesn't take much. Then do a light lap with the upper ring halves installed. Then cleanout the lapping compound (with alcohol on a rag), let the alcohol evaporate, and dust the insides of the rings with Scope Grip (Rosin) from Mounting Solutions Plus. I use a Q-tip. and then mount the scope, leveling the crosshairs with a surveyor's brightly colored string and plumb bob at 100+ yards. Then torque the ring screws alternating as you would on a tire attempting to get the same gap on either side of the rings. Torque to spec. Atleast that's how I do it. -David Edgewood, NM |

How do you level the scope? I think I understand, let me try, basically you use a plumb bob at say 100 yards to ensure that the surveyors string is straight up and down and then you would align the vertical "cross hair" on that to ensure the scope was level? Interesting. In the past I have used the corner edge of a big building about a 1/4 mile away as a line up mark.... |
Damn, that's some good info right there. I'll be doing all of this soon. |
