I would like some input on the scope setup you use for your ptr91 setup.
I guess I'm looking for a nice in between model where I can still get some distance out of it (up to 600 yards if possible) but not have it so that short range target acquisition is impossible. Thanks for the input. |

I am using the MFI base, with a Leupold 1.5-5x20mm.
The longer scopes, if mounted far enough forward, interfere with slapping the bolt closed, which besides feeling cool, helps close the bolt. I also think that if you mount it high enough to be able to see the iron sights, it'll be too high for use, but YMMV. Tonight was the first time I had a chance to shoot at some hogs with this combo. They were about 200 yards away, running, and I missed. Several times. But it wasn't the scope's fault, or the gun's. I like this set-up. I tried the HK style claw mount; it was too high, although I did like seeing my irons. Ive heard it said that you cannot obtain a satisfactory cheek weld with any scope mount without using some sort of riser. Be cautious trying to achieve a NTCH set-up. I... ahem, know someone who got a scope cut this way. I don't know if you would be happy at 600 yards with that scope, and big scopes throw off the ergonomics of the rilfe, besides interfering with the slap. Good luck; it can be an intriguing project finding what suits you. |
| Being that we are talking about an 18" MBR with a 1:12 twist, I think a fixed 4X scope mounted on one of those $120 low profile scope mounts is the way to go. If you wanted a little more power and magnification adjustment, I seem to remember ATN offering a 2-6X scope. To me, anything more than 6X is overkill. I also agree that the claw mount set up are too high. |

I use PRI high rings with my Trijicon Accupoint TR20-1. It clears the rear sight (just barely). My Magpul stock has the cheek piece, to get my correct line of sight. |
