I have two scopes for two rifles. Which scope should go with which rifle? The AR-10 won't get shot for 3 Gun anymore & if so, I'll swap a 1x4x20 back on it. So it'll basically be a range/SHTF gun. The Marlin will only be used for benchrest shooting as I don't hunt anymore.
One scope is an Osprey mil dot 10x40x50, the other a Swarovski 3x9x36. AR-10 is an Armalite full stock lower, 16" flattie upper. The .22 is a Marlin 880SQ (heavy bbl) with an aftermarket trigger. Please give reasons for your answers as I'm back & forth like a dyslexic at a strobe light convention....................

Personally I would put the 10x-40x on the Marlin. If you are going to use it only as a bench gun then the highest magnification should be on it. I have a 6-18 on my 880SQ and I think it can use more because of how accurate it is. The more magnification on a bench gun the better in my eyes.
If the 308 might be used in a defense situation I would put the Swarovski on it because I wouldn't worry about it failing me at the wrong time. Also, a 10x-40x might be a bit much if you are shooting and moving, especially in an urban enviroment. I have an early 880SQ (has dovetail for rear sight) and because the barrels used were the match barrels from the 2000 for the early 880SQ's shoot extremely well. I have always said that if I had to sell guns that this one would be the last to go because it is extremely accurate and consistent. Just my thoughts Dolomite |

3-9 on the AR-10; sell the Osprey and buy a Tasco Tasco? Nikon is where it's at, specifically, a Buckmaster or Monarch model for the .22. Use the money you saved for pop tarts and ammo. All I use my 10/22 for is plinking, and the Buckmaster 3-9X40mm makes hitting golf balls at 100yds almost too easy. |
