Scope for Cricket > 10/22 & 22 Caliber Rifles

My daughter has a Cricket .22 rifle, I am thinking about getting her a scope for a christmas gift. I have the scope mount. Does anyone have a scope on one of these rifles? If so what kind do you have and what are your thoughts? I am not thinking about spending a lot at most @ $50. I have thought about a small cheap red dot and I have thought about something more traditional. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

I would go BSA. Its cheap and works great for .22s. I had a 4x BSA on my Chipmunk when I was younger and it worked great. Held zero beautifully.

i put a bsa 30mm red dot on my sons. dont have to worry about eye relief that way.

Keep it traditional with open sites. People get spoiled with scopes early on and don't develop basic skills.

Thanks for the suggestions so far. My wife and I have talked some about keeping it open sights (the MRS. thinks this is the way to go, or rather stay for now) and I agree that it would help her to better develop her skills, but on the same token I want to make shooting as much fun as possible and if a scope would help her to get more hits I believe she might enjoy it even more. She already seems to enjoy shooting, especially when we use ballons for targets (they give a good visual reaction.) I have also considered fiber opic iron sights for the rifle but have been unable to locate any for that rifle. I saw some on another cricket model, that were made by williams but looking at their site and crickets I could not find them for individual purchase.

Maybe Cricket can provide you with the sights. I'd email them and ask.

I agree with keeping the iron sights, Both my boys (8 and 11) have rifles with iron sights. I did recently pickup a 10/22 youth and put a scope on it for them.

I would put a scope on. Shooting with a scope is easier and would allow your kid to focus on trigger control and breathing (and get more hits) which builds skill and confidence. You can always take the scope off later.

To answer your question as to which scope, I still have the Simmons Wideview scope from my first .22 (which was $50 in 1993). I just mounted it on my new CZ 452 American. Yup, I still like it and it still works great. I'm sure there is some equivalent on the market now.

I put a Bushnell 1-4x24 on my daughters Cricket she likes it.

My son got one for his b-day last year, and i made him get proficient with the basic sights, unknowing to him i had the scope the cricket has for that particular rifle laying in wait. its a 4 power and once he was good at using the basics we put it on and he got the principals of adjusment a being able to sight in at one distance (50 yrds) and compinsate for further (100 yrds, aim up 1 dot! as he puts it.) shoot he wants to go to the range more than i do at times.
