Guys...I need some help.  Let me start off by saying I know nothing of optics, which after I ask this question will be readily apparent.

Friend gave me a sporterized K98k to clean up for him.  Problem is it has a scope on it that I can't for the life of me figure out how to get off.  In order to disassemble the bolt the safety has to be set straight up.  With the scope there I can't get it turned all the way.

Here's a couple of pics of it.  I thought all I had to do was flip the tab on the back of the mount up and it would pop off, but that didn't work.  It too won't clear the scope.  The only other way I see to get it off would be to start undoing screws but I don't want to get it out of alignment.

Don't know if it matters but the scope is a Weaver K4 and the mount doesn't have a name or part number on it.  Just a R in circle.

Thanks for the help!

You will have to back off both those screws to get that particular mount off.

Which screws, the large ones?  I thought those were for adjusting the scope left and right?  After I back off the screws does the mount slide back off of the receiver?

That is what looks like a Leupold mount. The screws on the back are to get the scope rough zeroed then use the knobs on the scope to do precise adjustments for zero.

To remove I take the screw out of the left side of the rear base. Then pivot the rear ring/scope themselves towards the left. It will pivot on the front mount and will pop out when you get to about 90 degrees. It may work by removing the right side screw but I always do the left side.

Basically you are going to twist the ring/scope out of the front mount after taking out the rear screw.

When reinstalling do the reverse then only tighen the screw you removed until the scope rings are tight. Not sure how well it was zeroed before but he may have to rezero or at least confirm zero.

That's it!  Worked just like you described.  I didn't think of pivoting it.  Thanks for the help!
