For a mossberg MVP in .308.
Will be used as a plinking/camping/truck gun, not for hunting. I have better options for hunting.
Doubt I use it for any kind of long range shooting either, really just a fun gun.
I'm thinking a 1-4 or something? Like 0-300 yards.
I only paid $350 for the thing new so I'm thinking about half that for a scope, not much more
All help appreciated!

Nikon Prostaff 2-7x32 is within your budget. Most of the 1-4x optics are geared toward the "tactical" market, and the ones in that price range will likely be worse performers than the Prostaff.

Leupold Rifleman might be worth a look.

Nikon Buckmaster II (3-9 or 4-12) or Nikon Prostaff (3-9 or 4-12) work very well as budget scopes.

Leupold VX-1 2-7x33, or 1.5-4x20.
