| What would be a good scope in the $2-300 range for a fal? I was thinking of getting an eotech would this work? I dont know if co witnessing exists on fals but if it does it not something i am to worried about. |

Are we correct in assuming that the optic will be mounted to a DSA-style top cover/mount? Or are you using/contemplating some other, different style of mount? Please clarify the intended use(s) of the rifle, and at what range(s). I'm a little confused. You begin by talking about scopes, and then go on to ask questions about the EoTech. To my mind, the EoTech and most scopes would have very different applications. Can you better explain this? |

I put a Kahles 1.5x6 on mine for a while with a scope mount top cover, just to see how accurate she was. I'm playing with a Tasco red dot now as I had one that wasn't on anything & what the hey. Thinking of a Russian Kobra, any info good/bad would be appreciated. Suit would be nice, but it's pricey for me, needs a different mount between it and my weaver rail, and I just dropped ~$400 on an unused Para kit. Damn addicitive FAL habit again. -hanko |
Sorry if my first post was confusing i know jack about optics. It will either be a tapco or dsa mount that will replace the top cover and have the mount built into it like a flaptop ar. The ranges i shoot at are generally under 100 meters. I cant afford to shell out 600+ bucks for a acog/elcan/aimpoint. |
Bingo! |
| I forgot to tell you. Dont buy the Tapco mount. Its junk IMHO. I had one and tossed it into the can. I have a DSA mount, excellent piece and an ARMS mount. The ARMS mount is, well its made by ARMS so you figure it out. Either will serve you very well for a long time. The ARMS does come close to repeatable zero after removing it to clean. The DSA does a good job but not a close. |

I've got an Eotech on one of mine and its fine for close range stuff. Anything beyond 50 and it just doesn't float my boat though. I have a new favorite all around optic. Its the Leupold 2.5X compact with the heavy duplex reticle. It is extremely light at 6.5 oz and is short at 8". The eye relief is a whopping 4.9" and its pretty forgiving at that. I can mount it so far farward that it nearly matches my scout rifle in terms of rapid target aquisition. It has enough magnification that I can see targets to about 300 yards yet is low enough to not let me get "lost" in the scope at close ranges. The quality of the optic is great. Its very bright. Price is in the low $200 range. I had never considered something like this as a combat optic, but after using it for a few weeks, including a pretty good hunt, I'm sold. |

Just a bit more about the advantage of long eye relief... With a scout scope, Eotech, Aimpoint and low power scopes, field of view isn't really a concern. You keep both eyes open and on the target at all times. The optic is far enough from your eye that it doesn't dominate your vision. At the moment a target appears, you shift your focus momentarily through the scope. If you have it mounted properly, you will not need much if any movement to align the cross hairs. Squeeze off the shot and view your handiwork with both eyes open again. This can't work if the scope is 2 inches from your nose. Once you get the hang of this, you'll wonder how you ever shot with any other sighting system. |
