Nice score on the brass.

However, I think you should return the bags to the range so the rightful owner can retrieve them. At the ranges where I have membership, if someone accidentally leaves behind an item, it stays there until it's reclaimed.

I found this Cadillac in the parking lot... someone must have left it there for me when they went in the store...

it's all a matter of principle, not disparity

Yes, you need to get the bags back to their owner.  Put up a sign, make whoever calls describe them.  Golden Rule and all that . . .

Hell I don't even have a 9mm but as soon as I have a nice box of brass I am going to give it away to someone that has one like I always do...along with my damaged cases in various calibers ... I have been picking up brass for guys. I don't know tiring to be a nice guy these thugs that use the range shoot a lot of 9mm and never pick up the brass...

By posting a sign and having the owner call with a description of their property, and you returning such, you have the opportunity to be the good Samaritan.

ETA: Who knows - you might just make a friend and get a "shooting buddy".

Why the regrets? If I forgot and left my bags at a public range I would expect them gone forever. Imagine how pleasantly surprised someone will be that you made an effort to return them.

I think there are differing standards applied to what one finds at a public, as opposed to a private range. If I left something at a private range then I think it would *probably* still be there if I returned soon thereafter. But, anything left at a public facility I would consider a write off, and be absolutely shocked if someone tried to return my property. You noted you would return the bags if you could locate the owner; this is not the moral compass of a thief.

If you post a note and no one calls, then you've done all you can do. You've made an honest attempt. Period.

I, for one, applaud your efforts to get the bags back to the owner. It's more than a lot of people would do under the circumstances.

Hell I belong to a private range and I have had a bastard picking up my .308 brass while it was still hot and then getting indignant when I thanked him for picking up "my" brass..
