WOW.....you are about to get me into a big long peeing contest and didn't even know it. First a little background... I am currently deployed in Iraq I am an actual school trained US Army sniper I have the ACOG on my M4 when I am not using my M24 All that being said I DO NOT like the ACOG at all and cannot understand why it has the huge fan club it does. It's optics are nowhere near as clear as it's $900 price tag would lead you to think it is. It's rangefinding system is impossible to use on any live target. It's eye relief stinks It's 200 and 300 yard aiming points are non defined AT BEST and thats where 99% of it's use will be. It's not readily adaptable to night vision use It's reticle is too bright in sunlight and too dim in darkness I could go on and on but you get the point. For 99% of all shooting and 99% of the shooters out there a M68CCO(Aimpoint) is better. Out to 300 yards it is capable of good, quick hits and I wouldn't want to stand at 400 with you holding on my head with that 2MOA dot. If you need or want magnification get a scout type scope from leupold or redfield with a decent reticle and not the overcrowded TV screen like the ACOG. This is all of course just my opinion,so take that for what it's worth!!! TJR |

TJR, Thank you for your service to this country! I appologize about the peeing match, of course. LOL....as a sniper I tend to believe that you know what you're talking about. Actually, regarding the ACOG, the only reason that I brought it up is because I saw a US Soldier with one on his M-14 and I thought it looked great. Obviously it was just the look of it that caught my eye. As for function, well, that's why I asked :) I could probably buy 2 Aimpoints for the price of 1 ACOG anyway :) Thanks again TJR!! --Brian STAY SAFE!!!! |

I don't know about an ACOG, but the nice thing about that Ultimak mount is that it rides low enough to co-witness irons with an Aimpoint. At least - that's what they say. I haven't actually played with one. I've been considering it for my Vltor mounted 18.5" bbl Polytech. I haven't done so yet because I keep finding other things to spend my dimes on, and I don't particularly want extra weight on my rifle. The irons do me okay and they don't need batteries and rarely break And as far as I know, your barrel is standard diameter. Enjoy! |
