Thanks in advance for taking the time to read this and for any good advice offered.
I want to dispose of some NFA items and I'm trying to weight legality, convenience, and optimizing my sales price. I purchased two MG's (one suppressed) while living in PA. I subsequently moved to HI. Rather than selling I put NFA items into storage in CO (yes, I complied with ATF regulations). Items are on a trust and I am the executor. Items are stored at a relative's house who I have in line on the trust but is not a co-executor. I could elevate her on the trust and she's eligible to possess the items, but she's initiated with firearms and uncooperative generally. Although getting the stuff out of her house might be pretty good motivation. I've had so many scenarios go through my head I'm not sure what makes most sense and could use some perspective. I've only bought NFA and never sold. Thanks again. |

Couldn't you either sell outright to a dealer or have a reputable class 3 dealer sell them for you and take a commission? Also, don't know how long you've been in HI, but maybe think about keeping them if you haven't been there that long. People tend to get "island fever" and go back to the mainland. |

I'm not realty seeing a problem.
Photograph the two guns List them on gunbroker at a fair price sell them have your co-trustee box them up and ship them to the seller's class 3 dealer the point of NFA paperwork is to insure that transfer of possession or ownership of these guns is regulated. as long as you don't transfer ownership illegally, then what's the problem? |

Do you need the cash?
Are you planning to live in HI for a long time? If not I would just find some where else safe to store them until you settle somewhere else. You can lock them up and store them at a friend or family members home even if they are not on your trust. Got a parent, sibling, etc...who wouldn't mind? At the rate MGs are going up in value I would be very hesitant to ever sell a MG unless i was usin the money to buy a different MG |

Thanks guys.
I understand the island fever. I've been here over 6 years now with no change on the horizon. I've decided I liked AR-15 building and I'd rather put that money to work. One is a Powder Springs Mac 10 .45 with the 2-stage can. The other is a mini uzi. Area is Loveland-Ft. Collins. Off the top of my head the Mac is registered receiver and the Uzi is bolt. One way or another it sounds like I need to have my relative added to the trust, have her take pictures and handle and shipping/transfers, and I conduct the sale via the internet. Unless I want to fly back and take the best offer I can get from whatever dealers I can find in the area. |
