I was talking to a buddy of mine telling him that a Company once made a semiauto version of the M60 machine gun, but I can not find any reference to it on-line. Anyone know where I can find more info on it?

Shotgun News used to carry those ads along with semi versions of .30cal & .50cal Brownings. Apparently your buddy doesn't know much about guns then?

There are a couple of others that make them as well but I'm not sure who.

Yes, they are made - but why would you want one?

I don't, I was just stating to him that one was made in semi and he disagreed. Thanks

I saw one of those semi-auto M60s at the local range, Angeles Shooting Ranges. He couldn't shoot more than 4 or 5 rounds, before it jammed. It looked really cool, but they just cost way too much.

I would cause they are cool, besides, IMO, full auto is overated. I'd rather have a SBR, SBS, or a suppressor.

Same thing I witnessed when I saw someone playing with one about 5 months ago.  I'd recommend against it, considering its $5500+ price tag.

I get enough M60 time with my unit...I'd much rather lay down at the long distance range and make little holes in the target.

I saw one of those M60 being melted down for re-bar in a pile guns from police confiscations in Los Angeles news cast.

Easy to say when you live somehwere that allows those things!

IIRC, they are modified to fire from a closed bolt.

And yeah, $5,500 is a lot to spend on this.   You can get an "entry level" MG for that.

Or, like others posted, you could get a bunch of other Class 3 goodies.  Supressors, SBR's, SBS's

My buddies got one. we blast through 100 rds belts all the time!
no issues to report. he has the E3
edite to add photo of his m60 in action. on this trip we fired about 5 100 rds belts and no issues
also, he tells me that when it was new it was a little cranky, but once broken in it is sweet.

Do you think it's capable of bump firing? Or is it too heavy?
12/24/2004 8:40:05 AM EDT

heavy, yes. about 28 pounds. might be worth a try... i'll ask my friend to try it out.

I've never fired a '60.  But I figure it should have a fair amount of recoil, being 7.62 NATO and all...

If a guy could bump one... I just might get one.

I mean, who doesn't want their own little slice of belt fed mayhem!!!! buwahahahahahaha!!!!

Springfield Armory made a few but most of the bad things I've heard about the semi's were about the Springfields.

There were a couple of other companies that made them as well but I don't recall who they were.

Would a hand crank be legal on one of these?

I don't know why not but, you could do it for a LOT less with a semi 1919

Yes it would, and they are available for the semi 1919's.

Both hand cranks and original style Gatling guns (all sizes, all dates of manufacture, all calibers.  Just have to follow original design type) are ruled "Legal non-MG's" by ATF because you have to physically crank the handle for each shot to fire.

If you attach an electric motor to it, it just became an illegal MG (unless of course, it's registered, but then why?)
