Ok here it goes.

One of the few gripes I have with the AR-15 is the fire selector.  It placement is great, but I have never liked how it rotates 90 degrees from safe to fire.  Its super easy to get into fire position, but I've always been annoyed with having to release my grip to get enough thumb meat to bring it back to safe.

I was thinking it would be handy if a switch was made that only rotated 45-60 degrees into the fire mode (similar to the XCR).  Does such a part exist on the commercial market?  I am NOT interested in messing with my selector, because it would look bad if I had a slam fire, and some how the man determined it was a modified F/A.

Thanks for any help.

If you feel the safety is too hard to manipulate, you could always put one of these larger ones on.

I have designed a selector that would do just that, problem is demand would be almost non-existant (besides it would look bad and we all know that is the most important thing) therefore I never prototyped to test function/safety.

I too have though about this, and there is an easy solution.

You can keep the 90* throw, so there is no need for a re-design, but orient the "part you touch with your thumb" counter-clockwise 45* in relation to the internal parts.  This way it can be swatted up and down with the thumb easily.  Also, switching it to "FIRE" is similar enough to the stock setup in both finger motion and muscle memory that there would be no re-learning to be done or mistakes made for people who shoot more than paper.
