If you were going to get a Remington Sendero II for target shooting would you pick the .264 Win Mag, 7mm Rem Mag, 7mm Rem Ultra Mag, 300 Win Mag, or 300 Rem Ultra Mag?
No hunting would be done with the rifle, just occasional target shooting at 500 yards, and farther as skill and equipment allow. I like the Sendero, including its heft. I don't have the liesure time to shoot alot. I would probably only shoot the rifle 2 or 3 times per year. Probably would not shoot more than about 100 to 150 rounds per year. So things like ammo cost, barrel wear rate, and so-forth really aren't too important to me. Purely low round count recreational shooting at longer distances than I normally get to shoot at is the goal. I do reload so I could use any available bullet in any cartridge. I do shoot mostly prone and have some concern about potential punishing felt recoil in that position with the stouter cartridges above. I have no first hand experience with any of the cartridges listed above.... I am familiar with the 223, 220 Swift, 243 Win, 450 BM, 458 SOCOM, 308, 30-06, 375 H&H, 375 Ruger, 416 Ruger, but that is about it. |

Quoted: I'd go with the 300 win mag. There are more high quality 30 caliber bullets out there than any other caliber, and brass is reasonably easy to come by. I had an original Sendero that was the moose's jammies!!! It was more accurate than I can honestly say without getting a lot of ridicule. I had some extraction issues with it ( as can be the problem with the weak extractors on 700s ) but was able to get a Harris extractor and a second ejector ( to re-align the ejection profile ) fitted that fixed the issue with awesome results. |
