What's a fair price for a very clean Service Grade-condition (at least) SA M1 nowadays? All major components are SA marked. Serial # in the 5,800,000 range. Above average metal finish all around. No TE & MW numbers on the 1948 barrel but the crown is very nice & the bore has nice bright & sharp rifling. The stock has nice figure but un-refinshed. Trigger guard is milled and tight. The safety clicks on & off tight. Your thoughts are appreciated. |

I have a couple of Service Grades that I got from CMP myself over the years so I know what to expect. I know the last ones went for $550, but I'm curious on whether the prices on the non-CMP market have gone up much from that. THX! Neither I or the shop has the gauges (I asked them if they knew what it gauged out as & they didn't have any idea. Like I said the barrel looks pretty good, just by giving it a good look with a bore gauge from both ends). |
At least take an M2 round and try to guage the muzzle with it. A USGI M2 round is what you need. Not real scientific but 1/8' and above is good.. SA Service Grades were going for 550.00 last batch. I got mine when they were 500.00 |

I asked them if they had a dummy 06 rd (they didn't) to do that, but I know they had M2 ammo there & should have thought about that. They are asking $649 & I'm sure I can talk them down to $600. It's in nicer condition (metal & wood) than the last SG I got from CMP for $550. |
Yes. I have an IHC service grade, early 1950's rifle, with a SA 1943 barrel. The reciever is electropenciled that it is a LEAD (IIRC) rebuild. |
I have an HRA barreled reciever from the CMP. It has a 43 SA barrel on it. |

When I see a rifle with a barrel older than the receiver, the first thing I usually look for are signs of a reweld.
