Will removal of the barrel set screw cause any shooting problems?

Its removal will allow the barrel to rotate in the barrel block.

That's what many folks do that want to go with a non-stock fore-grip.
The proper metric size is 5mm x 10mm   and the SAE that fits is 10-32 pitch x 3/8"
