I made one of these from 1018 steel a few months ago.  It worked out well, very well, so I had to try to one up myself.  This one took almost 2x the time.  Which lands somewhere around 8-10 hours on my little machine shop mini-mill.  I roached a few HSS tools in the process too.  I have enough to make one more.  As cool as it was, I'm not going to start on #2 any time soon.

FWIW, I was warned about cutting the threads.  It was worse than I thought. Probably more than an hour just in threading.

Single point threading on a lathe with a single phase motor is often a PITA.

Many have no 'instant stop' brake or 'instant reversing.'

You need a 3-phase motor to accomplish those most of the time.
