What's the sharpest folder out there in the $100-175 range (or less). I like the look of the DD/Kershaw knife.

It's really a question of what your use of the blade will entail. Edge grinds and blade profiles (with the right steel/heat treat)make all the difference in how a sharp edge will hold up under use. Look at it this way, a scalpel is about as sharp as a steel blade can be made but that edge won't hold up under sustained use. Whereas a knife from (brand x) might  not be as sharp as the scalpel but can still be sharpened to a very keen edge and maintain that edge over time with minimal loss of sharpness.

Hope this was useful.

Thanks guys, that helps. I'll get one of those sharpeners and a quality brand knife, and see how that turns out.

Sharepest out of the box folder I've seen was my Microtech Mini SOCOM Elite auto but it sure as hell wasn't under $100.

Sharpest out of the box folder I've seen was my Microtech Mini SOCOM Elite auto. I think I paid $159 for it in 2005.

Some of the sharpest out of the box folders IMO are Spyderco's.

The sharpest knife out-of-the-box that I have ever seen was a Spyderco ParaMilitary 2 that I got recently.  It was hair popping sharp, the action was as smooth as silk, and it cost $120 delivered.
