I bought this DSA Stg58 build from a fellow board member, and pulled off the original pre-ban fake brake. The barrel underneath where the long brake covered it was unfinished and I had wanted to put the short Stoll FH on it. Before it came, the long FH kind of started to grow on me.

I refinished the barrel by getting rid of all the silver solder and blending it in with the parked section, then sprayed on a coat of Brownell's Aluma Hyde in Dark Parkerizing. I also ordered an Austrian Stoll FH, and now I can't make up my mind which one looks better. Time for an Arfcom poll obviously.

Short?

or long?

I should mention: Blasphemous as it is, I never cared much for FALs, and only bought the rifle because my buddy needed the money. Now that I have it, I'm more than impressed with it. While it's not a rifle I'd want to lug around in the field due to its weight, I'm very impressed with the overall quality and *feel* of this rifle. It feels like you can use it as a battle rifle and a makeshift sledgehammer if you had to...

Well,
Like a dumbass, I answered the poll before reading the post and seeing pics.  For a RIFLE, I like the long FH much better.  It just looks "right" on a StG rifle.  For a CARBINE, I like the shorty.

Long for that rifle.  Looks like a fine battlefield implement.

I like the short FH.

I don't care about "historical authenticity", and the long flash hider doesn't work any better, just weighs more.

Looks retarded with the shorty on it.

Since the rest of the rifle is authentic looking I say go witht he long FH.

If it were a butchered FrankenFal then i'd probably vote for the shorty.

I like the short Belgium type Flash suppressors on most except for the Heavy Barreled FALS which are already monsters so might as well make it all big.

Check out the custom DSA shortened FH on this one (it's select fire).  All of my FAL's have the Belgium style but my brothers Izzy HB has that long one that looks like an M14 type.  The Australian and British styles look goofy to me.

Granted it goes along with the short barrel on this one.  I am not very knowledgeable with all the FAL/STG flash hiders but the Belgium one is a combo FH/Brake/Bayonet mount so my bayonet wouldn't fit on the others.  Do beyonets mount on the FH of the longer variety?

Don't know what to reply, as your thread title says "flash hider", and your poll concerns muzzle brakes.

Anyway, who cares how they look?  Which best meets your needs?

Yeah - the poll should have said "Flash Hider". My bad.

What best needs my needs? It's mostly aesthetic at this point in time.

Another non-vote here.

Always thought the long Stg FH (AKA Robot-ribbed for her pleasure- Dildo) looked goofy and is too heavy. Everything aft of the muzzle is useless grenade launcher.

Keeps me a Humpback and a FN Short Metric FH...!

Actually you would be wrong again - it's Flash Suppressor, not hider.  Don't make me sic LarryG36 on you - it's his particular snit.  Some are combo suppressor/brake units as well.

I don't like all the circular grooves on some of the long units, harder to clean for the anal types.

And here I thought the spelling Nazis were bad.

Depends and I don't know why I feel this way.

On a STG58 for some reason the long one looks better

On the Belgium I like the short one. I want to put a Vortex type on my Belgium but can't find the guy who sells them.

I was told Yankee Hill Machine is suppose to be making one.

On that rifle I vote long.  Long Stolle is what my mutt wears.

Go with the Original long. This is a classic NATO rifle, I'd keep it that way with an original STOLL if the parts count will allow it.

I voted short - although my choice would be the Imbel combo device(if I didn't live in stupid NY)...

Shoot it with both of them on there. Go with the one that gives the best groups.
