| Why is there an import ban on Sig products? |
| Some pistols that were sold to the US government ended up being given to forces involved in conflicts in Latin america, which is against several export restrictions the German government has in place. So essentially the government of Germany deemed the US as a high risk straw buyer and barred future sig exports from germany. The answer has been to start setting up for custom shop production in america. |

Just now you can't buy German made SIGs (X series, and probably why they discontinued the P232) except on the secondary market. |

There was a foreign import ban some years ago. I think Clinton was president at the time. IIRC, that's when 922r was enacted. That's when Sig and HK prices jumped through the roof. The import weapons ban was put into place by the first George Bush and that was about 5 years before the 1994 AWB. It's still in effect. |

Quoted: This is interesting, so how does H&K import their pistols!? Ze Germans require their companies to have an arms export license and SIG's got revoked: HK's did not. However, the VP9, HK45 and P30 are all made in the US, just the USP line is made in Germany. I suspect if HK's export license ever got revoked, we just wouldn't see any more USP's. Everything else is (able to be) made here. |

The German government slapped Sig with an export ban, as has been pointed many times in this thread. Clinton also had nothing to do with it. |
| Here is the article for those of you confusing US import bans, and German export bans. http://www.bbc.com/news/world-latin-america-28291070 |

Did not know this. Is there any way this can be removed? Or does Germany essentially never lift these?
And just to clarify, there are three branches of the company: SIG Sauer GmbH - Germany. Builds/exports pistols. SIG Sauer Inc. - USA. Does the ARs, MXC/MPX, SIG-556 and also builds/exports most of the pistols. Biggest division of the company. Swiss Arms - Switzerland. Does the SG-550 line. Do I have this right? I suppose SIG can product the remaining products here but I wonder what that means for the German division. |

SwissArms 553 pistols were imported by M&M and Sig Sauer USA. The current SAN importer is JDI in TX. They are importing 553R pistols and complete barreled uppers for the 550, 551 long barrel, 551 short barrel, 553 long barrel, and 553 short barrel. They also plan to import the 751/SAPR in pistol format.
