How can you tell if you have an early version of the sig556? I ask because I was told that the DDLES Adaptor will not work on the early versions. Also is the sig556 military or commercial when come to installing another stock?

The DDLES adapter works on the folding stock (classic) models.  If the rifle has a non-folding M4 style stock then the DDLES adapter won't work with it, but its also not needed because the rifle is already set up to use the AR type stocks.  As for whether the early 556 AR stock rifles are mil spec or not, I can't say, mine is a Classic.

Non-classic 556's should have a commercial-spec tube, if I'm not mistaken.

Here's an Early SWAT:

As you can see it has an M4 stock on a  buffer tube (that has no buffer in it, but whatever. "receiver extension" if you prefer.)

Here's a "classic" (that the DDLES adapter fits):

(Not an M4 stock, no buffer tube)
