I put my new YHM silencer (attaches to Phantom FS) on my Bush M1A and fired it for the first time Monday.

Let me first say I tightened a FS with a wrench and put the Suppressor on correctly. After the first round I noticed a lot of back pressure which is directed toward my face. The second round blew the FS and Silencer off the barrel. The silencer was not dammaged. Then I put the Phantom FS back on the rifle without the silencer and took another shot. The FS came flying off and I couldn't find it. I think the pressure stripped the threads off my FS or barrel.

The rifle is a Springfield Bush M1A with Troy stock.

Anyoone know why this happened?

For starters, you need an adjustable gas nut. Pics would help for the rest of the issues.

M1A's do not suppress well. Due to the gas system they are naturally loud. Similar to why AK's dont suppress well.
I have one with a Omega 30. (It took special machining)
There is a ton of gas blow back when you attach a suppressor, I added a low profile ARMS mount to combat this. It blows it to the side instead of your face. Why you are having the additional issues I am not sure.
I believe the adjustable gas nut will help however.

have the gas nut on my other M1A 21" barrel

the suppressor works great for the 2 rounds I shot
Much quieter

First question? What is the YHM Flash Hider threaded to? I had a similar call on a sat phone from Iraq not too long ago. Some guys were issued Gemtech cans from the Armory that were thread mount. We never made a thread mount can for the M1A threads. He tried to tell me that is "sorta fit" but when they fired the gun it shot off down range. I informed him that it "sorta doesn't" fit. We ended up making them some adapters.

Most .308 suppressors and mounts use a 5/8-24 thread. They will "sorta" thread onto an M1A but that is not the correct thread. I am looking at YHM's website right now and I don't see where they offer QD mount in the correct threads for the M1A.

That would be the first thing to check.

Good Lord-  SORTOF FIT?

What one thread?  If that is the case here, you're lucky if the round went through the can and didn't hit anything.

as I stated it was set up correctly and aligned but I think the pressure was just too much for the threads

i believe you had the wrong threads on the flash hider.  most M1A's are .595"-32 tpi.

sure seems that way.

You either had the wrong flash hider entirely or you cross threaded it.

If the Phantom was the incorrect one, that's its own answer, but the M1A-correct 5/8" x 24 TPI Phantom should have hand threaded on with no resistance. A wrench should have been only necessary to snug it tight.

My best guess damage assessment is that you have destroyed the Phantom, likely the muzzle threads of the M1A too, though there's a chance you can slim chase the threads back to spec.  Since the Phantom was likely cross threaded to the muzzle, you very likely did not have proper alignment and there's a good chance you have internal baffle damage too.

the thread for the Phantom is 5/8"-24 Right-Hand thread

The inside of the silencer does not look like anything is damaged

No experience with this rifle, but sounds like general opinion is the 5/8X24 is not the thread that the rifle has.

Quite simply, the M1A and M14 use a very short length of totally non-standard 0.595-32 threads. Whatever mounting system is used, the threads of the mount MUST match these threads. If one were using a 5/8-24 thread mount, it would surprise me if the thing didn't launch on the first round. If you had initially planned on using the suppressor on the M1A, you should have specified this to the manufacturer. If this was a secondary use, you should get a mount specifically for that weapon. It is also foolish economy to move the quick detach mount from weapon to weapon to try to save a couple of bucks.

Shameless plug: Our HVT Quik-Mount suppressor is available with a variety of flash hider mounts, including for the M1A and AK.

It is the threads
I told the dealer that I wanted one for my M1A and that is what he gave me

If you know a good machinist, you may be able to buy a 1/2x28 mount for a phantom 556 can and have it bored out and internally rethreaded for the M1A, assuming the threads are still intact on the rifle.  I did this for my G3 since YHM doesn't make a mount threaded for the HK91/G3.

If there's not enough meat left to rethread a 1/2" ID mount to 5/8" you could have the barrel rethreaded to 1/2x32" and use their 9mm mount.  There is a small collar that would need to be turned down to allow the 762 can to fit, but it will work.  I did this for a 6.8 barrel that was threaded 1/2x36.
