I have been tossing around the idea of getting a can for it.  will any 308 suppressor work with a smith Vortex FS.

I'll probably never shoot sub-sonic ammo.  How much will a suppressor affect my balistics and what kind of changes in FPS should I expect?

I do know know of a suppressor that will work with your Vortex FS -- however, you could go with a screw mount that would replace your FS or one of the fast detach mounts that have a very effective FS as part of the system.  Take a look at Gemtech HVT or Yankee Hill 7.62 Phantom

Here is a photo of the Yankee Hill FS used in their system: Yankee Hill Phantom FS

Here is a link to a page where various FS were tested including the Vortex and Phantom:

The suppressor will have almost no affect on velocity -- you may get a few fps increase due to the suppressor.  This effect is call free bore boost, but it would be very small if any at all.  My experience is that the precision increases with the addition of the suppressor.  Here is my bolt gun with a .308 AAC Cyclone suppressor.  I only shoot supersonic ammo in this gun and it is very accurate and precise.
