I was cleaning one of my resizing dies this evening and noticed a possible problem I have been overlooking. When I reassembled the die, I noticed the decapping stem was not centered in the bore of the die once I tightened the lock nut. It looks to me like this would introduce some runout, wouldn't it? If I ran a case up in the die with the stem lock nut loose and then lowered the case until the expander ball is in the neck and then tighten the lock nut, would that center it correctly? Thanks, Monte |

| That's a recommended way to center the spindle by tightening the lock nut when the spindle ball is started in the neck. I've read that putting an o-ring under the lock nut and not locking it tightly so the spindle self centers itself can help case neck concentricity. Others tweak the position of the spindle checking case neck concentricity and run-out and locking the nut tightly when run-out is lowest. Main thing is checking run-out and trying to keep hunting cases 4 thousandths or less and target cases to 2 thousandths or less. |

To center sizing stem, keep stem a little loose and run a case into die. Tighten down sizing stem, because it is now centered. Quoted:
