Anybody know what pistol the Sky Marshall's are being issued? I have seen video of them using a Sig, but I'm curious to know which one and which calliber they chose.

I doubt that it's classified.

So,

SIG P229 in .357SIG.

That must sound real nice in an enclosed, pressurized enviroment.

I just read somewhere that the Air Marshals Service won't confirm or deny what type of pistol or ammo they use for security purposes.

I'm not sure if they have a "standard issue" or not, but all the Sky Marshals I have seen on the news use the Sig P229 in .357 Sig. Smart boys too I might add! Sig's are great.

Most likely using Mag Safe or very frangible ammo to avoid ricochet and punching the aluminum skin of the planes.

So they punch a hole - so what?  Those things are far from air-tight anyway.  I think a 747 can maintain cabin pressure with either one or two windows GONE so a .45 hole wouldn't even be noticed.  Odds of hitting anything truly vital is remote.

As long as they hit the JERK up to no good, I'm pleased.

Nope, no frangible rounds or other exotic ammo. I won't say exactly what ammo they carry because they want to keep it on the down low, but you can walk into your local gun shop and find the same ammo that they carry.

So it is the same as what the Secret Service issues. I wonder what the rationale was for the choice of caliber. I also wonder if we'll see a trend away from Glocks now.
