I was going through and reaming my primer pockets on some .223 LC and thought.. 'hey i can use this same tool to chamfer the neck'  worked pretty good one  few trials and before I went on and did more does anyone see why this isn't a good idea?  I know if i put a lot of preasure on the case while the drill is spinning it can shave off a little to much, but it seems that if i give it the right amount of pressure it gives me a nice chamfered edge.. thoughts?

To be honest, not something I would do.

The angle of the cut is probably not ideal, however, I guess anything's better than a jagged and rough edge, no?

Campher/deburr tools are $10, invest in one.

I've done it playing around with some old brass on my Trim Mate and it works fine, the angle is a little steep but not far off from a standard chamfer tool, I prefer the RCBD VLD chamfer over all others since it doesn't remove as much material and the bullets seat easier.

I prefer to use the proper tool for the job

If it works, it works.  I've seen cases deburred with pocket knives.  A good home made tool for inside deburring can be made from a screwdriver ground (and kept cool) and sharpened.

A Wilson type deburr tool is hard to beat, however.

The reason so many different tools are made for the same job is because everyone has a different opinion of what the proper/best tool for the job is, when actually there is no such thing as the proper tool, a creative person can make many things work just as good as the so called proper tool.

If it works for you, use it!

For the $10-$13 you'll spend on a standard Wilson type campher tool, you'll also get it to deburr (outside edge) for you as well, reamer bits like the Hornady, won't.  These are helpful steps, especially after trimming sans Giraud and for kissing the mouths on new brass

2 for 1.

Does anyone know if the RCBS VLD tool will work in a drill?  on midway there is a review saying that the screw in part of the bit is off center and will cause the chamfer tool to not spin correct

Also, does the wilson tool fit in a drill?

I use the Wilson (/RCBS) deburring tool with an adapter for the drill.  Sinclair International sells the adapter; it's also used with the Possum Hollow trimmer.

Look below the lower RCBS trimmer, that's a possum Hollow trimmer with a drill adapter.

Same adapter you will need for a Wilson deburring tool.

Yes and yes.

Just make sure that when using the combo in a drill, that you go with lower RPMs and not full turbo mode.

Makes inserting the case mouths a little more forgiving.

Spend a few bucks and get a decent, appropriate tool for the job.  Look HERE at Midway for the RCBS tool, and a lot of other options.  I'd go with either the RCBS, the Forster or the Wilson tool, because they all handle outside deburring too, which the much less expensive Lee tool does not do.
