Ok, maybe this is the wrong place but I consider if my feet are comfy then I can remain tactically proficient, hence it is part of my tactical gear
So I have been to the smart wool officials site and there are so many types. I am looking for any recommendations on Smart Wool socks that are good for long distance rucking and also have a military acceptable color (Green or Black) Any help as always is appreciated.. |

Don't forget these guys...Darn Tough. I wear their full cushion boot sock year round in the mid 90's in Fl to the -20's in the NW.
I never put much thought into socks but a few years ago started wearing these and my feet have literally changed.. sounds weird but it's true |

I never put much thought into socks but a few years ago started wearing these and my feet have literally changed.. sounds weird but it's true Ok, now this kills me...since I have never looked at this brand...I find on there site Berry Compliant socks Darn Tough 14021 Berry Compliant Boot Sock So when I see the pic, I am like hey wait a minute, so I go up into my drawer and lo and behold..there's 10 pairs of these...now I have been using these over the past 4 months logging 300 miles of rucking with a 60-75 pound ruck and these are my favorite!! They were given to me by our Air Force supply guy when I was deployed...so I am happy...funny ain't it, looking for something better and find out I have one of the best :) |
| Costco starts carrying smartwool socks about this time of year...they are the store brand (Kirkland Signature) and run about 10 bucks for three pair, so I replenish my stores annually. I've been wearing exclusively for about 2 years now, unless I'm wearing sandals. They hold up amazingly well and perform like the more expensive brands. I'll never go back to cotton! |

I do alot of backpacking and I prefer Thorlo to Smartwool. Thorlo makes a military boot sock that is awsome. I wore a pair on a very wet and muddy trip in Montana last month and they worked very well.

I can't say what would be acceptable for the military these days, but I have worn nothing but Smartwool socks for years. They are the only kind of socks I've ever had that have lasted as long and are good year round (including summer and winter in Afghanistan). Fantastic!
These are what I wear, and they're available in black and one or two other colors that might work for you. They're more expensive than your basic GI socks, but worth every penny. They're not cushioned like a lot of socks, but (speaking as a former grunt with a lot of miles on my hooves) I've always been fond of putting really good insoles in my boots. Not the $5 flat Dr. Scholls kind, but the expensive ones that have arch support, cushion, etc. My favorites for many years now, alongside my smartwools, are Superfeet's green hiking insoles. You are absolutely right to take care of your feet, they're the most reliable transportation you've got! Hope this helps. Have a good one. |

I'll never go back to cotton! target had C9 styles that is wear were knockoff's or made by smartwool for them. 4-6$ a pair..i bought several and they are awesome socks for the cost. havent seen anymore down here though in a year or more

I was recommended Smartwool from a few of my instructors, i have a few pairs. Nice comfy socks. I also like these Fox River Socks. really comfy and i havent had any problems with them. |
| Another satisfied Smart Wool customer checking in. I've been wearing the mid-height boot sock with Corcoran desert boots this summer ( in Texas ) and have been remarkably comfortable. Last weekend I spent three days in the rain and was comfortable up until my boots became completely immersed. After I poured the water out of my boots, the Smart Wool dried out relatively quickly. I've worn several pair of Smart Wool socks consecutive days and they just don't seem to stink up as much as some other's I've worn. My two cents clearly, socks are a very personal choice. |

I wear Smartwool Light Hikers year round.
I wear them to work (construction), casual (just came back from the dentist's office), hiking, camping, running, etc. And I wore them in the mil when I could get away with it. There are none better. I buy them at REI when they are on sale. |

Smartwool Mountaineering socks- all others use these socks as the standard. I have been wearing 5-6 different pairs for the last 2 years and you CANNOT wear these out. If you launder them in cold water and hang/drip dry them, they get a little stiffer, but no real wear marks are holes at in any of them...

I find the Smart Wool to be very comfortable and give them a 5 out of 10 on durability.
Thorlo are a bit more comfortable but I give them only a 3.5 on durability. I have some Columbia Merino socks that after 6 years are still going strong despite daily wear (8 out of 10 on wear). Unfortunately I cannot find replacements. Socks are the most underrated survival item. You'll need to be able to be on your feet no mater what the SHTF. |

I've been wearing Smartwool socks now for a while and they are great all weather and all condition boot socks. The ones I am wearing are a brownish/greyish color. My 1SG however does not give a crap what color our socks are as long as we don't wear anything bright. Never noticed if they have anything in green or black.
I'm also trying out some foilage green Underarmor socks. These are showing a lot of promise, esp. as a summer/hot weather sock but the jury is out on how they hold up but it's looking good. |

I don't think in general Smartwool socks are make as well as they used to be (like many other clothing brands), but are still very good.

| Was looking for smartwool at the NEX yesterday but all they had was Covert Threads and Fox River. Either of these socks worth $9 a pair? |

Not a fan of Smartwool––they don't seem to stay up for me.
LOVE the "Ingenious" sock by Wigwam. Cabelas also sells the same sock under their own name. They last a long time, and stay up. I prefer the medium weight hiker version to the heavier ones, but those work great too. |
