A friend of mine has a brass bead snapped off of an old shotgun.

There is nothing to grab with pliers, and the threaded portion in the barrel is too small in diameter to drill and use a screw extractor.

The only thing I can think is to solder a bit of wire to it and try to unscrew it.

Any other ideas?

With no head the screw may not have any torque to it. Sometimes you can use a small screwdriver, like an eyeglass screwdriver, or a straight pin to twist the screw out.
This has always worked for me.

I will second the small screwdriver.  A left hand drill bit might work too.

Drill through the remaining part of the bead and re-tap for a new bead.

(Many non vent ribbed barrels have the bead hole drilled all the way through the barrel; then you can use a sanding drum to smooth down any of the bead's shank that protrudes into the bore)
