How good is this gear from the UK? Thinking about getting a Merlin 3 sleeping bag and kinda digging their Rocket pack.

As good as any other sleeping bag with a nylon/pertex shell and synthetic filling...... i.e. probably not going to be warm at all down near it's "comfort" range. There's no getting around the old saying "pack light, freeze at night". So far, nothing man made has been as warm or compressible as down fill in a sleeping bag. The problem with down is that performs VERY poorly when wet and needs more cleaning than synthetic fills. If your plans don't involve doing heli inserts into water or staying out for weeks at a time with no opportunity to wash your bag, then get the down bag.

If you are dead set on the Merlin, take a look at the Akrtis sleeping bags. They are NATO issue and relatively robust. At the end of the day though, they are just nylon and plastic fiber like the Snugpak.

IMHO the best synthetic fill bag is a Wiggy's because it's guaranteed to hold it's loft, and you can even put it through a washing machine every time you use it without any damage.

I love my Snugpack softie. I have augmented it plenty though. I have a jersey Bag liner ($30) from EMS, and I keep my Kifaur Woobie as my Pillow/ "Dang it's cold" emergency. Check out this thread

same here I have the softie and its a good bag. The rock it an ok pack, the waist strap is a little small( very thin) however I dont use it. So if your ok with not haviong a quality waist strap they are a good bag.

Unapologetic Wiggy fanboy here.  I'm looking forward to using the individual pieces of my FTRSS towards the low end of their comfort range (35deg and 20deg), I've used the whole system, rated to -20deg in the dead of winter when the nighttime low was around -10, and I was very comfortable.

Your sleeping pad(s) will make a HUGE difference in how warm you are or aren't.  For winter camping I take a Thermarest, a Ridgerest, and a roll of Reflectex insulation to lay on.
