Maybe the hive can help me find something that I cannot.

I once had a TAD jacket that I sold, because I was an idiot, (don't ask). Turns out over a year after I sold it I missed my soft shell. Now I'm in the market for a new one.

I'd like something similar to the TAD, but pockets and velcro on the sleeves, pockets in the front, and a hood. OD or Navy blue.

Problem is I need it in an XXL or XLT, and most of the stuff that's out is either too small, or way out of my price range.

I was trying to track down one of those clearance 5.11 Saber V1 jackets that were selling for $120ish, but I can't find one in both the correct size and the preferred color.

I've looked into the Condor stuff, but it's just not really my thing. What else is out there?

Preferably lightly insulated, similar to the TAD stuff, but at this point I'm not going to be super pickey. I've still got an old ECWCS fleece I can wear for insulation.

How are those Condor softshells? Are they ok? Or are they total crap?

Beats me, there are a lot of reviews out there for them, and most are positive.

I briefly sold Condor gear years back however, and the stuff they sold then was garbage, so I'm a bit hesitant to buy their softshell.

The Condor softshell isn't all that bad.

One minute Condor's not your thing and then the next your asking is it ok??  Get off your high horse cause buddy with the budget you listed it's about all your going to get.  Now there are just way to fucking many reviews of the Condor to knock it at this stage in the game so either get one and save some or get another TAD and or a Arc'tyrx Bravo softshell.  You might find a black or maybe navy North Face Apex Bionic in your price range.  Just dont knock something cause it's not your thing, that's like saying  Fords are not my thing when in reality you cant afford a Ferrari.

I'm not really sure who you're addressing with this to be honest, because I neither said that Condor was ok, nor did I list a budget.

The whole point in this thread was to see if there was anything out there that was available that I missed, not to complain or set limits on what I'd consider purchasing. Chill.

Oh, and there were several things that I missed, such as the Propper Level V jacket that was pointed out above. I also found a 5.11 Saber in Dark Navy, XL, which I'm going to take a shot at.

Mods, I suppose this one can be locked.

Thanks for the help.

I've owned a Condor Softshell through two winters now although this winter has been much more mild than pervious ones.

I wear it either alone or with a fleece underneath it. I have a GSD with bear like claws and I train him wearing it and so far with all his jumping on me it has held up great without a snag or rip.  The zippers are functioning very well.  The only issue I've had with the Condor softshell is that when my wife washed it she tossed it in the dryer and the rubber sleeve cuff split due to the glue heating off in the dryer. I purchased some locktite glue made for rubber and re-glued it with no problem and it's held fine.

I'm not sure how spending another few hundred dollars on a softshell would have given me a better product?  I can't really ask for better.

I believe someone else asked if Condor was okay.

I have a Rothco/Condor softshell and have been very happy with it.  It has kept me dry and is holding up well.  I will say it is not the warmest thing, and if the temp is below 40 or so, you would want to layer.

I've been happy with my condor.  It stays warm enough till about 25 degrees if you have a decent fleece under it.  Much colder than that and I am going to a parka type jacket over a soft shell.  I've had mine for about 2 years now and it is holding up nice.

My Carhartt cost about 80 bucks and has held up very well.

I use mine at work, it gets abused and hasnt scratched or frayed yet.

I have one and it's pretty nice. I got it to be a mid-weight jacket for site visits to renovation and construction sites. I'm on the move to four or five in one day in the city, so it has to be low drag, but I'm not high speed.

The Condor Softshel has got some pretty good reviews by people I trust.   Personally I am not in the market for a softshell (Have a Bravo Jacket) but if I was and didn't want to spend too much $$ I would buy one.

Their fleece jackets (similar to the TAD Rangers) have pretty good reviews too....

Have you looked into Marmot, North Face, or Patagonia? They usually have very nice soft shells in that price range. I suggest the Marmot Approach or Eastside soft shells. Nice fit good for layering.

wrd. mountain hardware makes good stuff too. seems like the op isnt in the market for a civy jacket though. but these are great options. i have a big northface jacket with a shell and an inner layer for when its really cold and i have never had any problems.
