I've been looking at a lot of Garands recently and I think I've fallen in love.  I saw the service grade H&R's on CMP but had a few questions.

I see people post about getting them mailed to their house, I thought FFL were required for out of state transfers.  I just do not understand how this is legal?  Do those people just have FFLs?

Also, I live about an hour away from the South store but still in Georgia, could I purchase at the store and have shipped to in state FFL?

Thanks for any info you guys give me, I've been interested in surplus rifles for awhile now and could see this becoming a serious burden to my finances.

The CMP is specifically authorized by law to sell rifles to qualified individuals in this manner.

Furthermore, under federal law and the laws of most of the states, you can buy rifles and shotguns even if you are from out of state.

There is no reason to get a third party FFL involved in your transaction unless your state disallows you from receiving rifles in this manner.

You can drive to the store, pick one out and take it home with you.  No FFL needed.

As above, no FFL needed.  I had wondered the sme thing, and was alittle nervous until the box got dropped off at my door :-)  Just need someone at home to sign for it.

If you're an hour from the store you should go down there. I'm a 34 hour flight and 20 hour drive from there and still have an urge to go.

LOL, looks like I'll be planning a little road trip.  Another plus is GA arms is off the road I use to get there and they are the biggest factory reloaders in GA!

Before you go, have your ducks lined up. Get all your paperwork submitted with all your t's crossed and I's dotted. Make sure you've got a club affiliation, I used the Garand Collectors Assocation, $25 a year and you'll get 4 GREAT mags packed with great info.
If you've got a concealed carry permit that will suffice for firearm proficiency as well as your DD214 if you're a vet.
Good luck, hope you snag a nice one!

I was also wondering about this too. I read the pinned thread at the top of this forum about CMP.
I would bring..
-Birth Certificate (proof of age and citizenship)
-A GCA membership ID
Then I believe I would need proof of Firearm Safety, and a NICS check.  Would a roster from my first IDPA shoot where I placed 19th of 24 be proof of Firearm Safety(it said shooting competition but I don't know if this IDPA shoot would count, it's more of a once a week fun shoot)?  Also would NICS just be a 4473 and a call to the FBI?

Or do you need to download and submit all the forms prior to going to the store?

Thanks for all your guys help I just want to get everything perfect before I drive out there.

I think that would suffice (IDPA roster/scores),  I used our adjudant general's pistol match score list for mine.  Then again I had a dd214, a pistol permit, a hunter education card, etc.    I sent it all.

CMP will do a NICS check at the store. You can fill out all paperwork there , they also have a Notary on site. You can also  join a club there

Awesome, I have the IDPA score(actually filled out paperwork under GADPA)  I also have a hunter's education class but it did not involve any shooting.  I'll call or email first to see if this is enough.

Are the prices at the store the same as online and does sales tax add a large amount to the rifle?

Yes you have sales tax and rifle prices are the same mail order or at a store. You can pick out rifle at a Store and have it shipped to your house and not pay sales tax. Shipping is cheaper than tax

Thanks a lot.  I'm getting all my paperwork and planning to drive out there end of this month for an early B Day present to myself.  I'll post picks whenever I get one.
