What is an SP1? What about all the other abreviations? CAR? A2? Any I left out? |
I know this has been argued about a million times here but CAR stands for Colt Automatic Rifle, in my may of 1965 Colt Military weapon system Specifications book they place CAR on all the full auto units, even the 20"er. Now days it seems that CAR is the general/generic term for most Carbines, I would guess by default. Flame on

JC, like you said this has been argued many times before but technically "CAR" would stand for "Colts' ARmaLite." In the original AR-15 the "AR" stands for ArmaLite. ArmaLite used the AR designator on all their weapons. As an example: AR-11 (.222 cal), AR-15 (5.56) AR16 (7.62 rifle) AR-17 (12 ga shotgun), AR-7 ( .22 survival rifle), AR-13 (hyper-velocity multi-barrel gun system for aircraft) etc., etc. No flame. |
![]() And yet another jackass heard from. ColtShorty GOA KABA COA JPFO SAF NRA "I won't be wronged, I won't be insulted and I won't be laid a hand on. I don't do these things to other people and I require the same from them." |
