you mean like M16/AR15 A1, M16/AR15 A2, M4A1, M4A2, M4A3, SP1, SP101, CAR-15, etc..?

SP1 is short for a Colt Sporter, they made a Sporter 2 also(SP2) CAR is for carbine, A2 is the military nomenclature for the standard issue service rifle, basically an updated and improved M16A1, with 3 round burst.

If you see a reference to "A2 sights", those are the current military rear sights that are adjustable for windage and elevation.  "A1" sights were only adjustable for windage on the rear sight.

not to sound like a jack ass but you have 205 posts and you don't know this. What the hell do you talk about on here?

I know this has been argued about a million times here but CAR stands for Colt Automatic Rifle, in my may of 1965 Colt Military weapon system Specifications book they place CAR on all the full auto units, even the 20"er. Now days it seems that CAR is the general/generic term for most Carbines, I would guess by default.  Flame on

JC, like you said this has been argued many times before but technically "CAR" would stand for "Colts' ARmaLite."  In the original AR-15 the "AR" stands for ArmaLite.

ArmaLite used the AR designator on all their weapons.  As an example:  AR-11 (.222 cal), AR-15 (5.56) AR16 (7.62 rifle) AR-17 (12 ga shotgun), AR-7 ( .22 survival rifle), AR-13 (hyper-velocity multi-barrel gun system for aircraft) etc., etc.

No flame.

Mmmmm...sorry.  You didn't pull it off.  You sound like a jackass. Got to admit, he does make a legitimate point, though.
